Don't Forget Amb. Wilson on The Daily Show Tonight!
at 11 p.m. Eastern time. Should be a great show and, hopefully, will wipe the stench of Dick Morris off the set!

1. Thank you heidho

Looking forward to this one too. Morris was such a big stinking wanker last nite. But we love Jon and crew.

Thanks again for the heads up.

6. I especially liked when he let him walk off the set
whereas usually he asks the guest to sit down and they chat. Jon's disdain for that scumbag was oh so evident.

I think John was very eager for that Dick to leave.
Also, John did not plug Morris's book at the end as is John's custom.

10. Agreed
You could tell Stewart was just flabbergasted by every moronic statement that came out of Morris' mouth. I admire him for having enough restraint not to just call him a fucking idiot and end the interview right there.

31. Thought he was fantastic with Dick Morris
I liked tonight's show with Wilson a lot, but last night's with Dick Morris was one of the show's finest moments, I thought. Well, they were both good, but he showed Morris up so thoroughly, and so effectively, just with wit..I was in awe.

39. He said he's a Dem, and this is the first time I heard either way.
If you work for State, you generally don't say. I wonder if this is the first time (on the Daily Show!) he came right out and said so in public?

At first I thought Jon was asking awfully stupid questions, but then I got it. Bringing people up to speed. Even with the extra time, I was wishing it could have been an hour. One thing really came across--Wilson is angry (and rightly so).

Do you think Jon and staff called Wilson to invite him? How does that work? As for Morris, it must have been his book-tour agent that set it up? Or is there an attempt to have about half lib and half con guests?

60. Jon usually does two segments with people he really likes.
(of the political guests)
He did two segments with Gore (maybe more??).

Did two with Peter Jennings.

Did two last night.

Meanwhile, Coulter and Morris get one segment, and they're on their way. In those cases, I imagine the show is trying to stay 'even'.

This is also smart of the show--their audience (at least in the studio) is liberal minded, and having neo-cons on for more than one segment wouldn't be good for their business. Plus, we get to see them everywhere else.

It's usually a mixture of agents calling/show calling. If the show really wants someone, they get Jon himself to call, I'd imagine.

34. I'll try my best
They start off quite friendly. Wilson explains how it was that he came to be sent down there. Not sent by Cheney's office. Cheney's office requested the CIA look into it, and the CIA asked Wilson to go. He spent some time going over his credentials (too long), Jon says "you got the job" in an effort to move him along. Explains that he never said they were forgeries, but that he knew enough about the Uranium business and Niger and Iraq to know there was no way it happened the way the documents said it did, which made the documents dubious at best. He was surprised that it was mentioned in the SOTU. He wrote the piece in the NYT. Was accused of telling the truth because he was a Dem. He loved what that said: "Dem=tells the truth, Republican=fill in the blank". Said that Fleisher applied the Emily Latella defense ('Nevermind').
Jon wanted to spend some time talking about why it was given any credibility in the first place. That is, does the intelligence community believe that you can go to Africa and buy yellowcake uranium. Wilson explained that the mining and processing of it is controlled by a French consortium (which got a few snickers out of Jon), and that it is well controlled.
Jon begged his producer to spend more time talking to Wilson, they went to a break, and came back to talk some more. Wilson talked about the impact to our credibility. Not just internationally but with the American people. That Bush might have trouble rallying people to support future military action based on presented evidence. Jon joked that it wouldn't matter, Bush would bomb them anyway. Wilson said that some very serious things have come out about his family which will require inquiry, and Jon said we're sure we'll hear more about that.

Pretty much it. I don't do the banter justice.

56. I can't believe how good the Daily Show is
Edited on Fri Jul-25-03 09:28 AM by El Mariachi
I saw it once or twice a long time ago when it first aired with Craig Kilborn, I wasn't impressed.

A few months ago, my dad recommended it to me, and I finally got around to watching it a few weeks ago.

I've been missing so much!

As a comedy program, its wonderful. As political commentary, its wonderful. The other 'journalists' on the show are wonderful as well. I even get a good laugh out of the food segments.

Stewart also seems to be in better shape from what I remember of him years ago.

65. When Wilson was introduced
He shook Jon's hand and told Jon he was doing a good job. I thought he was very down to earth and had much more to say.
Many, very important political and real journalist have told Jon that. They were honored to be on the show. Jon just gives that timid look into the camera, but I think he knows.

I've been watching the Daily Show for 4 years and honestly, it is the best fake news program out there. I believe Jon is a genius at comedy. Better than Johnny Carson, because he has a better straight man in Stephen Colbert. Steven has that smug, knowitall, senior analyst, in your face reporting style we have grown so sick of. His immitation of Geraldo in the desert fox gear was hysterical. It provides the only relief to the insanity of the real world.
