With J-Lo as Mary Magdelene . . .and Love Notes from God!
Edited on Tue Jul-08-03 11:17 AM by blondeatlast
In doing some research for work, I came across this gem:

A Bible that looks like a magazine!

In focus groups, online polling, and one-on-one discussion, Extreme for Jesus has found that the number one reason teens don't read the Bible is that it is "too big and freaky looking." This fashion-magazine format for the New Testament is the perfect solution to that problem. Teen girls feel comfortable exploring the Scriptures and over 500 further-study notes because of the relevant format!

Revolve is the new look for teen Bible publishing; and Extreme for Jesus is leading the pack again!

Blabs (Q & A)
12 month-long calendars
Love Notes from God
Issue articles
Basics of Christianity Articles
Quizzes
Beauty Secrets
Guys Speak Out!
Relationship articles
Truth or Dares
Devotional Reading Plans
and more . . .

This is from the world's leading Bible publisher (by far). They also published . . .

"Savage Nation"

On edit: it helps to include the URL, blondie!
OE2: Oh, well--call it overkill.

6. "That may be Christian, but it ain't rock"
Actually, the quote I heard from a preacher preaching was the reverse, "That may be rock, but it ain't Christian." I think my formulation is more accurate.

7. Ummmm, no--I think many people on the board know I'm a Christian.
I frequently am found defending it . . .

I just think this is funny.

10. It is funny
If the thread could be left to laughing at the topic stated at the beginning I wouldnt care. It will likely evolve into what they always do. 100 people tearing religion down and less then a handful to defend there beliefs.

3. There have been major attempts to repackage the bible
I once found 10 copies of a paper back bible dumped on my car (targetted because of bumperstickers). They were just the New Testiment. Ridding itself of the Old Testiment is increasingly an issue for those that market the bible. There is just too much that jars with modern humanist sensibility found in it. There is slaughter literally on a biblical scale.

The movie Dogma makes jest of the various churches trying to repackage their message to reach the children. Much of the frenzy of the religious right comes from the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep children focused on religious teachings when so much of the world is being explained through other means. Dinosaurs interest children much more than old bible texts.

4. I'm not going to bash christians, just make fun of the magazine...
Edited on Tue Jul-08-03 11:23 AM by RememberJohn
...at the website you can click and see a larger image of the magazine's cover...

One story is "Guys speak out on tons of important issues"

Now what could those be?

"I don't think girls should wear make-up. They look like harlots."

"I kissed a pagan girl and she put her tongue in my mouth. Is that moral?"

5. J-Lo is a stupid ho!
Figures she would be party to this.
The lynx jacket she wears required the pelage from
20 animals (they only use the white underbelly fur)!

Another worthless role model.

9. What happens to some women when they get rich?
Edited on Tue Jul-08-03 11:38 AM by roughsatori
It simply does not seem to bother them that a child's arm may have been cut off in the process of their diamonds reaching their disgusting fingers. And to even suggest to the "animal loving" fur coat wearer that she could wear something less "torturous" makes one a kook for suggesting it.

I have read so many generalizations about "rich white men." Why not get into the fray?
