check out this latest poll and strategy memo from Democracy Corps. I know this is a Dem polling outfit, but their numbers are traditionally consistent with other polls and they interview likely voters, like Zogby. According to them, Bush's approval dropped from 7 points in one month, from 62 to 55, and he has sustained serious damage on the trust issue. I think that's important to keep in mind - Nigergate has lingered long enough that it has hurt Bush permanently whether it hangs around or fades away. His Teflon has been penetrated, and chances are that opens him up to further damage from other controversies in the future. I know this poll wa done before Saddam's sons were killed but our troops are still dying in Iraq so I don't believe that momentary victory changes anything fundamental.
