Post-* DU: What will it look like?
Things seem to be (knocks wood) going (knocks wood) our way (beats wood senseless) somewhat in the news lately.

I was just wondering what folks think DU will look like when (breaks through wood) there's a Democrat in the WH. Will folks stay here? Will conversations deteriorate into issue-specific quibbling? Or will it fade away, like summer camp romances?

3. I'm hoping that DU will look more towards winning seats in both the
Senate and the House.

4. That's precisely where we need to get
Since the Repukes want a one-party government, the Democrats must answer in kind.

Perhaps we will achieve a sort of equilibrium, but my guess is politics will get even dirtier and meaner if the Democrats win the WH in '04.

6. Real Differences Exist
This board is unified mostly by a dislike of how President Bush is running our government--it is not, I don't believe, united in how it thinks a democratic President should rule. So Naturally there will be some contentious debate after President Bush leaves office--I think that is good--so long as remember that we are all, more or less, on the same side.

But there will be a tendancy for dissatisfaction no matter who gets elected--being a president is a lot harder than being a candidate. Reminds me of old Groucho Marx line--"My esteemed opponent claims that I've broken many campaign promises. Well, I can make new ones, just as good."

8. one third of DUers will say the president is too conservative...
and is a Republican lite. Another third will say he's too liberal, and can't be reelected. The most vocal third will say he's beyond reproach and the other two thirds are traitors to the party.

A third in each camp MORE OR LESS depending on who is president.

9. The post-* future
We will all live in huge glass skyscrapers connected by elevated glass tubes with moving sidewalks. Every home will have a talking robot maid to do the dishes and laundry. Everyone will get around in nuclear powered flying cars or jet backpacks. Food will be in pill form, until you add one drop of water, then it will instantly poof into a complete steak dinner.

10. So you're saying
that you don't have a talking robot maid now? How do you keep your space drapes clean?
