The 9/11 Report is whitewashing the Culpability of the Republican Congress

The Republican Congress for four years prior to 9/11 turned down all requests to increase the capability needs of defending the country against the threat of a terrorist act. Now they have shifted the focus away from their culpability in 9/11 from themselves and towards the agencies that they would not give the necessary money or tools to protect us.

Even now after 9/11 the Republican Congress continues to act in a penny-pinching manner in the defense against terrorism. They want to use the threat to further their political agenda while meeting that threat on the cheap. The country is still vulnerable at its ports because the Republican Congress would rather spend 9 billion on a missile defense that doesn’t work than spend 4 billion to upgrade the security of the ports.

Next time someone says to you, “we are still at risk from attack here at home.” You should ask them the question, “How much more secure would we be if we were spending 4 billion a month on security here at home, rather than on fighting a war and rebuilding a country that it is now known to have presented no threat to us?”
