A young mother on our local news tonight is planning to tell her son those words someday. The news reader seemed to think that was the proper thing to say also. It's so sad.
This isn't a war about freedom. It's that a mother is in the position where she must explain the death of the child's father...but... This isn't about freedom. It's about control.
I just feel like shit. America is murdering not only Iraqis, but our own citizens with a sickening amount of nonchalance. The blood that is flowing in Iraq just doesn't matter to the people in this administration. This has got to stop. People are being slaughtered by George W. Bush.
to the kid if he's growing up in fascist police state? Wonder if the irony will be lost on him. "Your daddy died you so could be enslaved to an unaccountable totalitarian corporate elite. Now best you be off, son. You don't wanna late for your appointment with the draft board, do you?"
The Administration has a remarkably effective spin machine. It has successfully spun this unjust war into a holy war for America. We are no different from the people we claim to be the enemy. But very few people realize this irony.
You are right that this is not an abnormality, but as one who grew up under the Clinton years, I think it's safe to say that this administration has taken it to whole new levels...
I saw a commericial on tv today. I'd sure like to know which company makes this game and who actually owns the company.
the commericial was for another violent video game. The difference is that this one quotes whoever said Don't die for your country; make the enemy die for his.
That might be the title of the game?? Not sure as I wasn't paying attention to it.
but hopefully after her grief tapers off she will realize that he would have been much more free if he could grow up with his father and that he could have lived in a country where we were not making enemies left and right.
Now she's a single mother having to raise a child in a country that does not value education and that does not value giving working people a living wage or veterans the services they have so rightfully earned.
Her boy would grow up more free in America if we righted those injustices instead of picking fights with tinpot dictators--that we used to support--10,000 miles away with no WMD's so that his country could be turned into a playground for corrupt exile henchmen and Halliburton.
