The LA Governor's Race
I was shocked to see Blanco win this one. Did Jindal lose because of his race?

I am just wondering because he was polling ahead of her. The other question that I have is that could white voters have lied about their support for Jindal?

This outcome just doesn't jive with the polling #'s. Or could Blanco have simply had an awesome field plan?

1. Another question
Was there a large or a small turnout? How did the turnout affect the final results?

3. The polls tightened in the last few days.
There were ads being run pointing out Bobby's shortcomings. Apparently it worked.

5. Ok
I wonder how many white voters lied to the pollsters or if his being Indian led to Jindal's defeat.

10. It's all about GOTV
and Louisiana Democrats have an awesome GOTV machine. Honestly, it strikes fear in the hearts of Repukes.

Jindal got 9% of the black vote, which is almost twice what the Repuke candidate usually gets, and 60% of the white vote. So of course, Blanco got 91% of the black vote and 40% of the white vote.

Minority voters got out and voted party over race. That's what it came down to, IMO.

7. Another Thing

I think it was less about the racism factor than the fact that Jindal and his campaign were utterly obnoxious. Jindal was a tough cat to interview aside from the obligatory broadcast news bites. Additionally, his signs grew progressively larger, with some large enough to cover SUV doors. I think most voters were able to see beyond his ethinicity and realize that behind the success story was a right-wing ideologue that was repulsive regardless of skin color.

On edit: Jindal's stances on issues beyond the usual Louisiana favorites such as abortion and business attraction were never clear.

9. Didn't many
of the polls show Terrel leading Landeui as well? The same thing happened in '00. Many polls showed Bush would get the popular vote by as much as 10%. It seems as though when turnout is higher than expected, we win.

11. Turnout high
Over 50 is a great number in that state for a governors race.

12. How could it be race if he got almost fifty percent?
You geezers in the east lose your races to repuke freaks and when a deep south state rejects a RWer (Louisiana doesn't really fit that mold, but never mind), all of a sudden its RACIST SOUTHERNERS.

You need to look at what happened a lot more closely so you people in the rest of the country don't give the country to BushCo.

Jindal got the usual fundamentalist RW area votes.

Blanco got the traditional French, south Louisiana urban Dem vote.

15. I think it was a legitimate question
There is a fairly large racist contingent in Louisiana. I live in a district that consistently went to David Duke every time he ran for anything.

But I seriously discount race as a deciding factor in this election. A clear majority of whites voted for Jindal.

16. Very little about race. And alot about Jindal being a Bu$h Inc. stooge.
Bu$h Inc. made the Landreau senate race about Dems vs. Bu$h`s so called popularity. I think we just saw a replay of that. Jindal came out of the current Bu$h administration. Bu$h Inc. still had their wackos out to vote for them. Just not enough to counter our number of people who are scared to death of Bu$h Inc. I am hoping that we can counter the wacko`s when we go against Bu$h in LA. He will get more whites out to vote for him than Jindal. But, Jindal was handpicked to win. And he did not get close enough to cheat to win. That is what we have to worry about with the squatter in Al Gores White House. Cheating to win. So we need to make sure we get all democrats and republicans with a fear of fascism out to vote for common sense. And of course Dim Son has no common sense. There is nothing common about Bu$h.
