one, I didn't realize that states and municipalities contributed to campaigns, and second, what the hell are big corporations doing giving a fringe candidate cash?

9. HOW TO READ THIS CHART:
This chart lists the top donors to this candidate during the 2004 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate, rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

Because of contribution limits, organizations that bundle together many individual contributions are often among the top donors to presidential candidates. These contributions can come from the organization's members or employees (and their families). The organization may support one candidate, or hedge its bets by supporting multiple candidates. Groups with national networks of donors - like EMILY's List and Club for Growth - make for particularly big bundlers.

Why (and How) We Use Donors’ Employer/Occupation Information

2. These reflect both individuals and PACs --
Individuals who work for those corporations/states/whatever, as well as any PAC affiliated with them.

So, the US Postal Service didn't necessarily give LaRouche all that money (I think PACs are limited to $5,000) -- just more of his $250+ contributors are employed by the Post Office. This could be a few executives, or a bunch of smaller contributors. (He could come from a Post Office family or something.)

Still weird that he's getting much $ at all.

4. let me tell you how he USED to get his money.......
Edited on Sun Nov-16-03 05:49 PM by buycitgo
and why he went to prison, despite what he claims (political prisoner, hah)

my mother, rest her poor john bircher soul, was one of the many who fell for his loan scam, in which she lent him $7800, and he promised to pay that back in five years, to the tune of 10K.

after a year, she got back about 2000, then got hit up for another loan, which, after telling me about the great deal she made, declined.

she didn't get any more money, and a few years later, was contacted by the feds, requesting that she testify at his Boston trial. they wanted to fly her out there, put her up in a hotel (me, too, as she had emphysema, and was in no shape to travel, but they were VERY insistent.....had trouble finding anyone to do it).

we didn't go, despite their many calls, which became more and more hectoring.

he did get convicted, spent some years in stir, then moved to Leesbury, Va., where the LaRouchies pretty much took over the town, and tried to sabotage the Virginia democratic party.

they did the same thing in Illinois

don't know why it appeared first on google here, but

12. The Weekly Standard? Why not quote FAUX News?
Seriously dude, The Weekly Standard? You know they're a right wing propagandizing bunch of lapdog presswhores don't you?

Well, now you do. Lookup William Kristol.

7. This is odd
The City of NY and Verizon. I also didn't know the Army donated. This is very strange and deserves investigation.

10. You misrepresent the meaning of these numbers.
If you had made donations to political campaigns you would have noticed that there is a line to fill out identifying your employer. The FEC data includes these contributions along with the employer info in the database. The amounts listed can then be tallied by employer. So the USPS total reflects contribtions by employees of the postal system, not money given by the USPS itself.

11. Why?
Does knowing who the employer of the donor is server any purpose to anyone?

13. Knowing affiliations is valuable -- when
the numbers are significant. With the limit being $2000 per head, the self-interest of folks with big money to give is often revealed by industry and employer info, since non-random bigbucks givers at the executuve level incomes overwhelm the "noise" of the semi-random patterns of giving among the wage-worker population. PAC and soft-money donations usually reveal even more, but the tiny amounts given to LaRouche cited here are meaningless.

Spend some time browsing through opensecrets.org and you will soon see how enlightening this data can be. It is one of the most important sites on the net for those who want to understand how things work in politics, and one of the most important cites for those who want to document loyalties.

14. peanuts
Given these are individual contribs lumped together by employer, these are trivial sums. EIR and EIRNS by the way are the LaRouche news service.
