FOX NEWS SAYS BUYING KNOCK OFF GUCCI BAGS SUPPORT TERRORISTS.
I am not shitting you. I just watched a segment where undercover cops went around busting these poor women while the were at these purse/bag parties kinda like tupperware parties but it was a bunch of these cheap knock off purses and bags and walletts, and one cop said that the customer may be paying 70 dollers for the bag while 40 of that goes into the hands of terrorists.

Godamn this segment needs to end up in a Michael Moore film.

3. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
If you're going to subject yourself to Fox News, don't complain about what you see. JUST STOP FUCKING WATCHING IT. That goes for right-wing websites, too.

4. I can't help it.
I watch Fox News all the damn time. What's the saying? "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

Of course, I try to balance Fox by watching the BBC news. No horseshit, just reporting.

Back on topic: BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

5. It's like that line from PRIVATE PARTS
About how people who love Howard Stern listen to him a lot, but people who hate him listen even more -- because they both want to hear the next outrageous thing he'll say.

It's the same thing with Fox News -- you think you're "keeping your enemies close", when in fact, you're being sucked right into their game plan, driving up their ratings and hitting their websites so advertisers keep it alive.

Now do you understand?!? JUST STOP.

7. Driving their ratings up?
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I could be). Unless I'm participating in a Nielson poll, what I watch has no effect on ratings. Those damn Nielsons have never asked me to join their little party.

Yes, I watch Fox News. Watching the rantings of their various group of Republican yes-men has steeled my resolve and strengthened my convictions to fight for the side that I love. Pretending that they're not there does nothing.

8. Who's pretending they're not there?
Edited on Thu Jul-24-03 02:27 AM by Paragon
I don't need to line their pockets to know that they're in power. They're the majority in all three branches, remember? Worst President Ever? Ring a bell?

I don't know exactly how Nielsen ratings work, but they're obviously based upon estimates, not exact numbers. And running around going "hey, look at this on Fox News" all the time increases the likelihood of an actual Nielsen family giving them numbers.

Honestly, I worry about anyone who watches Fox News "all the time", no matter who they are. I know it'd drive ME nuts, and I certainly don't need to sit enraptured by the propaganda machine to know that it's shoveling shit at me.

We'll have to agree to disagree, I suppose. Personally, I want to know what the opposition is saying. My best source for that is obviously Fox News. Knowledge is power, and information is ammunition.

And who said I was fucking "enraptured"? Me? No. Disgusted is a better way to describe it.

WASHINGTON - Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble has warned governments and law enforcement agencies that there is growing evidence of a link between intellectual property crime and terrorist financing. (Source: Interpol, July 2003)

But the European Commission also considered the link in 1999.

<snip> Links with organised crime, including drugs and terrorism, in the EU and in Third Countries are suspected by a fair number of respondents, in a diversity of industries and contexts, and a small amount of evidence was cited. The comment is made that counterfeiting is so profitable and the penalties are so low that it is an attractive alternative to drugs crime. </snip> (Source: Report on responses to the European Commission Green Paper on Counterfeiting and Piracy, 1999)

The Europol 2002 Organised Crime Situation Report doesn't say anthing specific, but given that intellectual property theft (aka "knock off" fashion accessories) is linked to organized crime in Europe, it is not hard to imagine the same criminal groups--particularly in Russia or Italy--also being involved in illegal arms sales or providing other services (money laundering, counterfeit passports or visas) to political terror organizations.

I don't think baby terrorists are selling fake Vitton on the sidewalks along the Seine, however.

Which is to say that, IMO, terrorism should be treated as a special, politically driven form of organized crime, rather than a defense challenge that can be countered with military means.

It's ironic that Fox is reporting on the potential link between intellectual property crimes and terrorism, because it actually highlights the fundamental inadequacy of ShrubCo's approach to the problem.

13. Its as if they didn't just report it.
It was as if they were in on the busts. They showed these groups of about 10 women all sitten around drinking coffee and looking at bags and then (bad boys, bad boys whatcha ya gonna do) cops bust in. Keep in mind this is in a small town outside of Portland,Or.

Anyone ever been down any major street in any major city and haven't come across hords of street vendors seeling shit like this. I mean hundreds of vendors sometimes. Vist your local swap meet and you find even more. Any major street in Italy you will find the same thing. But they are citing/fining poor women having tupawear purse parties???? O thats right, they might actually pay there fines.
