My father just said that a 14 year old "from that part of the world"
is not like a 14 year old from here. A large fight was brewing as I reminded Captain America that in his state of Florida, they try 13 and 14 year olds as adults and sentence them to life in prison.

Dad's response? He turned the volume way up on FAUX "News." This from a guy who claims to have voted for Nader.

1. He's right
Part's of the world are different. You grow up a lot quicker and harder in say...Bosnia-Herizgovina than you do in Florida.

3. Absolutely
In many parts of the world a fourteen year old is married, having children, supporting himself and his extended family and, sometimes, is a member of an armed force. We have the luxury of growing up very slowly in much of the west. That luxury (which is fairly recent, btw) does not extend to most of the world's population.

4. but what's the ratio ?
1 out of 1 million kids here 1 out of 10 kids there.

Americans, by and large, have no idea what life beyond these shores is like and the more "third" the world the harder it is.

5. Dad would not so easily support the demise of a 14 year old from
this country; he has not supported the death penalty for juveniles. The value of the life of a 14 year old from Iraq is much smaller then because of his life experience.

6. huh ?
is this thread about the value of someone's life relative to geography then ? I did not get that from the original post.

All lives are, of course, equal.

7. Just because....
his country was bombed when he was four, and then again when he was fourteen the kid should shut up and be happy the "mericans" are going to bring democracy to his ungrateful ass.You can never please these
fourteen year olds from "those parts of the country". :puke:
