I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has donated to DU during this week's fund drive. Thanks to you, we are almost half way to our goal for the week!

To those of you who have not donated, I hope that you will do so as soon as you are able. I know that some of you have indicated that you are waiting to donate because you want to donate at the moment when the glove hits George in the face. I certainly understand this. After all, who wouldn't want to give a "virtual smack" to the illegitimate, unelected moron? But if everyone waits, then we will all be denied the pleasure of watching the chimp-in-chief get punched in the face.

If the red boxing glove reaches the 1000 mark, it won't be because one person donated at the right time. It will be because EVERYONE WHO DONATED did their part to put us over the top. That boxing glove will have the force of 1000 DUers!

If you have been watching the numbers climb, you should have noticed that the donations are slowing down significantly as the week continues. If they slow down much more, then our chance of meeting our goal will be extremely slim. If we fail to reach our goal, I hope it is because we tried our best and fell short, not because many of us were staring at our computers, waiting for the right time to give.

Our needs are real. Our budget is reasonable. Our salaries are low. Donating to DU is a cost-effective way to strike a blow against the Bush Regime. In a world gone mad, think of it as an investment in your own sanity.

due to educational expenses, job loss, medical problems, etc., I have several sponsors lined up who want to make a donation to DU in your name so that you can participate more fully, like conduct searches or post polls.

24. Can I make a suggestion

The highest form of "Tzedakah" giving is where the donor and the recipient don't know of each other. If you have the names of some people who would like to sponser, ask someone else to accumulate the names of others who for financial hardships can't make a donation this time.

Send your list to admin and the other person will send their list. Then just match them up by number.

I think just the goodness of DU members will take care of the rest.

28. It's actually working out like that somewhat

Some sponsors just picked people on their own from a thread containing requests. Some people PMed their requests to me and I found matches.

The sponsors are remaining anonymous unless they chose to have their names given to the sponsors. If a recipient sent a note of thanks, I forwarded it to the sponsor if I knew who it was.

This way, people on either end were able to be as private or public about it as they wished. In any case, this whole thing just kind of evolved without much forethought on my part. If I did it again, I certainly would take your idea into consideration. Thanks. :-)
