Anyone think Al Gore would make a good Secretary General of UN?
IMO he is one of the most articulate and intelligent people America has to offer and is wasted on Americans. They like ignorance and macho and could care less about intelligence and right. He needs to help the world because we are a lost cause.

2. No American should be Sec. Gen. of the UN
Considering the way in which the US, under administrations of BOTH parties, has manipulated the UN into being a de facto endorser of US foreign policy (often at the expense of other nations), it is pure hypocrisy to propose that ANY American be appointed as Sec. Gen. of that international body.

9. although I'm no internationalist you're right
about how we've used the UN to promote US interests.

I really doubt Gore wants to leave Tennessee for anything other than being president, which he wouldn't attepmt at least until 04 if we lose.

3. I don't know.
A few years ago I thought he'd make a pretty good POTUS.

5. I am partial to Jean Chretien for that job myself but....
would love to see Clinton or Gore there too, I wish there was that chance.

6. I have the feeling that no permanent member country
of the security council is considered when looking for secretary general candidates, since they have enough clout in the UN already. I can't prove it though (and it's not an easy thing to google for).

11. Clinton said that Gore was the person in his administration most eager to
attack Iraq and take SH out.

By the way.

12. Do you have a link to President Clinton saying that?
From everything that Vice President Gore has said since the attack on Iraq I find that suspect. He has been very vocal in his insistence that attacking Iraq was the wrong thing to do.
