Talking with My Republican Dad Today...
I'm a liberal. My dad's a Republican cop. However, he's able to see reality and judge things in a balanced manner. For my mom's recent birthday, he purchased Living History for her. He laughed about Tucker's bet over the book, saying it was plainly obvious to "little children and most farm animals" that Hillary would sell a million books. He believes that Gore "probably" won the election. He even voted for Gore in 2000. Recently, the various "Bush lied about THIS" articles had brought him around. He knew that the war was about oil, and we agreed on the nonsensical manner of Bush lying about WMDs while a much easier road was available if he just said he was going in for oil/help the Iraqi people. Bush is out in 2004, according to my dad. However, some things are a little strange still. Coming home from Barnes and Noble today, I was flipping through a book I picked up called What Were They Thinking? It's a funny book about the worst decisions people have made throughout history. Anyway, I turn a page and see the Al Gore "I took the initiative in creating the Internet" quote there. I loudly voiced my disapproval. My dad then tok the opportunity to say that Al Gore had a much easier time in the press during the 2000 election than did George W. Bush. Furthermore, Dan Quayle didn't have a chance because of the press. Sometimes, I just can't get it.

Later.

1. I understand
what you're talking about - both my parents were Bushies but have turned on him, won't vote for him in 2004. We agree on the current issues; however, there's alot we'll never see eye to eye about. They're still repugs.

3. How is your dad a Republican?
I don't see anything that makes him a Republican in your description...

stories!

But this needs addressing: "My dad then took the opportunity to say that Al Gore had a much easier time in the press during the 2000 election than did George W. Bush. Furthermore, Dan Quayle didn't have a chance because of the press. Sometimes, I just can't get it."

It is recorded History that Al Gore did NOT have an easier time in the press than bush!

Some of my records are in the DU archives over on the old Board which can't be accessed yet! But there is proof out there that the assumption by your Dad that Gore had an easier time is Just Wrong!!

I hope you can get the record straight on that with him because to me ...It is Very Important and is what made the race sooo close!

The media was Whoring Big Time! :kick:

7. As I remember it Gore was constantly called a liar and a stiff phony by
the media, who all seemed to have some personal vendetta against him...With Bush, it was all "he's a good old straight talking friendlyl guy." They seemed to fall for the fact that he had nick names for a lot of them, etc...This always puzzled me, as a non-American who saw a different picture of Gore...I thought he seemed like a nice, decent, intelligent and well informed person...Bush ALWAYS came across as a goof who tried to make up for his failings by being buddy-buddy!....IMO

11. I'm Happy to say that I saw the same things that you did, glarius
from inside the USA. And it wasn't from what the media was reporting and I didn't have a computer then! I just knew I liked Gore and was for him 1000% and I was Always Pissed off at the media who I found out later were being Whores!!

6. I wouldn't be too hard on your dad
His statement about Gore having it easier than Bush is tough to swallow but he's right about everything else you mention. Hey, I like your dad!

9. Jay Leno was a big part of the Gore attacks
I have not nor will I watch the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He used it as a political tool something Carson would NEVER have done. He may as well join ESPN Football because I will never watch that show either
as long as Rush is on. Maybe they should get Leno, Miller, Coultier, and Rush and have a pitty on the Rich & Greedy Telathon.

12. Hi Robsul82!!!
Your dad sounds like a Mensch! What you can do now is check out the "Daily Howler" and learn for yourself how Gore was pilloried by the media. All the LIES are documented on that site. Then you will be able to make a clear cogent case to him about who the 'perp' REALLY was.
