2. No conspiracy theory here

They didn't "pull" the story from their site. It was a hot issue and popular with the current events, so they moved it from their free section to their paid section. They're a corporation, and they thought this would make them more money, that's all. It's still available, just moved to the paid section to make more money off a high demand thing.

Actually, I think the original poster might be right. It appears that although it might be moved to the pay section, it has been removed from the listing from which most people might reasonably be able to find such an article, even if they might wish to purchase it.
