Germany to Review Terror Exhibit Funds

BERLIN (AP) - Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has ordered a review of whether a planned exhibition on a defunct left-wing terror group should receive state funding, after objections from victims' families, a government spokesman said Tuesday.

The city of Berlin had earmarked euro100,000 (US$113,500) from funds partly supplied by the federal government for the fall 2004 exhibition on the Red Army Faction, which carried out a spate of attacks across Germany in the 1970s and 80s in the hope of sparking a revolution.

Schroeder asked culture minister Christina Weiss to look into the financial support after receiving a letter from relatives of two of the group's most prominent victims, the spokesman said on customary condition of anonymity.

The Guardian is missing some details: Although the Victim's letters prompted the chancellor to intervene, conservative politicians Merz and Westerwelle are making a disgusting show out of this.
