Why have we agreed that they were Saddam's sons?

It seems like the media and even here, people have accepted that the identity of those people killed today to be Saddam's sons. How do we know this for sure? To me this smells like all of the other bullshit discoveries that they've pulled.

Even NPR reported it as fact.

As far as I know, there was a major firefight that ended up with three very charred bodies. They may not be able to do the DNA tests but the Pentagon says that it was the notorious Saddam boys.

Is the Pentagons word the only thing that we have as proof? If so, this is just another Bush campaign commercial. I WANT CONCRETE EVIDENCE!!!!!!!

6. I was just thinking that

First red flag was that the mission went so flawlessly.

Next was that they were so positive so quickly.

Now I see that CBS, NBC and ABC all have one hour specials about the victorious mission that netted Saddam's boys, all ready to go and on the air now.

And don't forget the timing is perfect.

8. And what will they say?

If that is Saddam's boys, and even end up getting Saddam himself. What will they say then if the Guerilla war continues and our people and their people keep getting whacked, day in, day out.

After all, their record for getting "bad guys" is impeccable, right?

If the two sons showed up on a videotape, holding the NYT headline about them being dead, and experts concluded the tape was real?

The Bushies would look like complete fools. (Once again.) And so would the military. It 's entirely possible that these clowns could (once again) have made a big mistake, but making such a false claim deliberately would be dumb even for them. And the military is pretty uncooperative about looking dumb for Rumsfeld these days.

They will have to provide evidence to some institution credible in the Arab world--Al Jazeera or some such. Very probably, there wil be audio tapes purporting to be from the 'dead' sons. The Saddam loyalists will believe them, whatever the other evidence.

11. Forensic questions may go unasked/unanswered.

They cannot do a DNA test unless they have prior DNA samples for each brother, as well as a DNA sample from at least ONE of their parents.
DNA testing will take three days or more to get lab results.
DNA testing could establish two of the charred bodies were brothers/cousins, but that doesn't prove they were Hussein's children.

Here's another reason for the inexplicable six hour bombardment of 4 guys "putting up fierce resistance with handguns." - it could be they were captured earlier and tortured/interrogated in a manner that violated the Geneva convention and would be apparent unless their bodies would be destroyed by fire. A thorough autopsy by a truly independent and expert forensic pathologist could tell a lot - but that would require an international panel of forensic pathologists appointed by an organization like an international scientific group.
