What was Chilabi's role in pre-invasion intelligence?
I'm bouncing this over from LBN as it seems potentially significant ...

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N10277334.htm
"U.S.-backed Iraqi political leader Ahmad Chalabi on Tuesday defended information his group gave Washington on weapons of mass destruction amid growing questions about intelligence used to justify the war on Iraq."

Were people the INC provided a major source of intell? If so, it changes everything: Imagine if in presentations to congress, congress would have heard: "Now, this is information we got from a group we've promised a leadership role in post Saddam Iraq ..."

Of Chilabi's claims, Powell has said, "I can't substantiate his claims. He makes new ones every year." google search: http://tinyurl.com/gact

What if Powel would have said as part of his presentation to the UN, "Now, a lot of this information can't be substantiated because it's coming from a guy who makes new claims every year

4. did congress know this in Oct 2002?
My impression was that they claimed knowledge was from government resources - and I would not include statements from people that had escaped from Iraq as a government resource - that is "testimony from Iraqi dissidents".

That would be a scandal wrapped within a scandal ... drip drip drip ... we need a :drip: emoticon.

2. Seriously, I don't think you can use the term "intelligence" in regard to
anything pre-Iraq. First you'd have to show me evidence that any of these people or any of the things they did involved "intelligence" in the strictest sense of the word.

3. Not just the Pentagon, but NYT
Rumsfeld's special intelligence committee reported Chalabi's words as Gospel, but Judith Miller's "special source" behind her ridiculous WMD rah-rahs was also none other than bank-fraud Chalabi.

One of the few pieces of human slime I actively wish a swift and violent end for on a regular basis.

8. I can't believe how quickly this stuff gets forgotten!!!!
Doesn't anybody in the media remember that Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz created a phony intelligence "agency" in the Pentagon, called OSP (Office of Strategic Planning?), to rival the intel coming from the DIA and the CIA. The OSP relied nearly exclusively on Chalabi and his INC. The OSP also leaked phony intel to the NYT, which would then officially contact Rumsfeld's office to get coroboration. That's how they played the game.

All this was in the godam press at least once. Are we so fucking stupid that a country of 300 million people nobody can keep their eyes on the godam ball when it comes to war and peace.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh!

:nuke:

(I feel better now.)

10. Of course,
He's a damn hood - from a family of crooks. Sort of like the Iraqi counterpart to the Bush family. They might consider setting up shop in Miami if they are drummed out of every other country of the world. The Cubans would appreciate their style.
