Southerners ONLY!: Presidential preference poll

I hope to run this poll on the honors system. Please do not vote if you are not from a southern state (that's the 11 states of the old confederacy). This poll is limited to DUers registered to vote in southern states. I would like to break down the candidates' support regionally.

Political scientists who study southern politics have generally confined their studies to the Confederate 11 because of the enormus poltical consequences that came from the experience of the Civil War and Reconstruction. This is not to say that border states like Missouri or Kentucky have no southern characteristics, but as pro-Union states in the Civil War they did not fully partake in the southern political experience. Indeed, those states were competitive for Republicans during the era of the Democratic "solid south". Yes, Florida has become somewhat "de-southernized" since the northern migration began in the 1950's, but it is a large state with a substantial southern element in it.

Although I could just as easily vote for Clark, come to think of it. I don't know how representative of my state I am though. The polls I've seen show the race here as pretty close between Dean, Clark, Edwards, Gephardt, Kerry, Lieberman, and Sharpton (because of the large black vote.)

And since the Tide was brought up, I'd just like to point out the 5-3 Gamecocks (2-3 in the SEC though) crushed Vandy this weekend and the 6-1 Panthers (#1 in the NFC South) beat the Saints AGAIN in an exciting overtime game just today. Plus, the amptly-named Yankees lost to the Marlins, so it's a good time to be a Southern boy-uh.

If Clark is anywhere on the ticket I have hopes for the South in the general election. However, I'm still embarrassed and pissed off that my own state didn't go for Gore in 2000! I have to say too that if Chimpy dumps Cheney and picks Bill Frist to be his running mate... Tennessee is toast for us. Mostly repugs around here and they think Frist has the moon hanging out of his arse!

Listen, my people are from Missouri, which some people consider the South. I've lived in Texas, which some people consider the South. I've worked in Nashville, which perhaps is officially "The South". And I've found the people who live there are from all over the fucking place.

You marginalize the south simply by referring to it as "The South".

There are "southerners" everywhere. Using your prejudicial notion of what "The South" is all about. We have them in southern california, we have them in northern california, we have them in Colorado .......
