NBC Nightly News has No Coverage of "War Protest" but Covers Israeli Peace
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 05:58 PM by KoKo01
Protestors, who were protesting latest Palestinian Civilian Casualties from Air Raids!

They covered Wolfowitz in North Iraq (which hasn't been problem heretofore because of Kurds), and then they switched to the Israeli story.

So, Israeli protestors get more coverage than American Protestors...........what else can I say. I turned on NBC looking for American Protest coverage in Washington, DC, and get photos and coverage of Israel complete with interview of former "Member of Israeli Parliament."

Hello!......I don't live in Israel! I turned on NBC because none of the other networks were on because of "football" and CNN MSNBC wasn't covering anything but "Diana" and "Demi Moore."

If they were any more "liberal" we would be in trouble, wouldn't we?

2. Question
What do you mean by "Israeli Peace."

Seems like a contradiction.

24. mostly peaceful
Except of course that Wolfowitz's hotel was just rocketed 6 times. It's probably just a democracy celebration that got a little too boisterous.

He swears up and down that all the execs care about is ratings and making money and they do not have a political agenda. He can't understand why progressives have tuned out. LOL

12. You know, Lib Dem....I would believe that...truly...but ratings? we've
tuned out here. We hit a newsite with our remote and then turn it off. Maybe they will listen when we Don't even hit and tune out all toghether forever. That's what many DU'ers have done. They cancelled their cable. Maybe that's the answer......

5. Now they're doing the Diana story too
and they COULD have at least mentioned the US protests. I agree. But I was very interested in the report on Israel--that growing numbers of people are appalled by Sharon's violence. Periodically, I tune out on I/P news because it seems so impossible that things there will ever change, and it is so devastatingly depressing (I know--not a good reason). Anyway, it was a good report--though, if anything, the violence is getting worse, much worse.

Antiwar Protesters On Move In D.C.
Some 30,000 were expected for a rally and march, but the turnout seemed much smaller as the march began. Thousands were expected at a demo in San Francisco. And in Seoul, two thousand turned out. More...

9. Israel can't seem to do ANYTHING right.
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 07:36 PM by TellTheTruth
Kudos to the Israeli citizens for defending the Palestinian's! How dare you pick today to have your protest!

We hear plenty of hatred spewed their way...why not give praise when praise is due? People sure are quick to throw out support for the Palestinian's...why not Israeli? very intersesting...if I say so myself.

I wonder if the Palestinian's were marching in protest of the Israeli's if some would be so irate over the coverage? For some reason, I don't think so.

This is sad. It answers a question that I've been asking myself about DU. Now I know.

Your jumping to conclusions and making implications.

You don't find it disappointing that 30000 people
can march against Bush and not make the nightly news?

You don't find it "intersesting"?

Good for the few Israeli citizens willing to stand up against
the inhumane actions of their government.

Nice controled ax grinding by the way.

You may be interested in the I/P forum under Foreign
Affairs/National Security you will fit in well down there.

It is all about controled ax grinding and dead horse flogging.

Ah yes, you made my point for me, Thanks. Actually, you would be much more comfortable in the I/P forum.....it is full of Israeli hatred...you would fit in nicely. I've been there once and won't be going back. Hatred oozes from that place.

18. I avoid it also.
It has endless kneejerk crap like "this thread ain't nothing but shit".

I guess I'm flattered that you have chosen me for your case study.

I was commenting on you injection of I/P issues into a thread
that was about american media coverage of american protests.

I was suggesting that you should take your issues to the forum
intended for it rather than divert this thread about poor coverage
of the US peace protests.

I know it is very hard for some people to see the "I" word
without draging out the "A" word or at least implying it as
I think you were doing.

19. You're not my case study. Don't flatter yourself.
My comment was legitimate. Israeli citizens are protesting to help the Palestinian's and THAT point was completely lost. "Israel" IS in the title of the thread, is it not? The thread wasn't titled "Princess Diana". "I live in the United Staes, not Israel" was part of the post. "I" did not bring Israel into the thread. It was already there with a description of the news report. I commented on the Israeli news report.

One of the first thoughts that came to mind was what I posted. I thought Israeli citizens should be given recognition for doing what their government won't do.

I wasn't dragging out the "A" word. You thought wrong.

I watched the entire protest on C-SPAN and YES I think it stinks that our news media didn't report on it. I'm not at all surprised by it...because it's typical.

21. ok
I am sorry I thought you were implying the "A" word.

I agree that the thread had Israel in the title but
that was not the topic it was media coverage of the
american protest vs. one in another country.

I thought you went off on issues better covered
in the I/P topical forum.

Sorry if I misread your intentions.

peace.

13. Same as last year.
Organizers said 250,000, and I did some calculations and it didn't seem that far off.

In the car on the way back the radio said 10,000 showed up, from an AP feed, and we went ballistic. Corrections didn't come out for two days.

16. KoKo, I'm going out on a limb here.
And I'm responding from a tactical perspective. For the past couple of weeks, I've actually been dreading the news coverage of the DC protest because there are those in the administration, the media, and the citizenry who seek to blame the "anti-war" crowd for the problems in Iraq.

There's that saying about how when your enemy is drowning, you don't throw him a life-preserver. The administration is drowning beneath its Iraq policy and it has been doing so with very little assistance. I understand that A.N.S.W.E.R. does the organizing so they should be able to bring up all those issues, but it does not serve those who oppose this war good to be associated with that group.

The American people have turned on the administration all on their own and bad publicity about the protest would not be helpful. In fact, I believe that it would give many reason to harden their hearts. Many would say that it's only been 7 months and we just want the US to fail. I don't want the administration to be given any life-preservers.

22. alcuno, I've come to believe that whatever "Anti-Iraq Invasion Protestors"
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 10:53 PM by KoKo01
do (or whom we have to "hook up with" to be able to protest), this administration will look on us like Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon's did. We will always be "tarred" with Anti-American/Anti-Military. It's a sad fact of life.

All protestors are tarred until the sleeping folks see what they are talking about, wake up and think.

If we have to protest amonst the socialists and communists, it's because they are the only ones who will help us. Who else is there? We aren't strong enough to do it on our own........yet. :-(

20. Thank goodness they didn't cover the speakers against America in general
The most harmful protest I have ever seen was this one. Damn few Americans regardless of party would approve of this protest. ANSWER can take their hate elsewhere IMO.

23. Source please.
Can you reference the exact speaker that got you
this worked up?

I would like to check what they said beyond
your characterization of it as "hate".

If it was rampant then just choose the worst one
and please be specific so I can understand your view.

I would like to learn from your detailed reference.

Thanks.
