The latest from the Family Values movement
White faces charges for asking minor for sex

Pa. police arrest firebrand 'Brother Stephen'

BY GILLIAN GILLERS
Contributing Reporter
Reverend Stephen White, infamous for preaching against homosexuality and sexual promiscuity at Yale and other college campuses, now faces charges that he solicited sex from a teenage boy in a Philadelphia suburb.

In recent years, White -- known to students as "Brother Stephen" -- has made informal speeches on Cross Campus and Beinecke Plaza denouncing minorities, homosexuals, religious groups and aspects of popular culture.

White was arrested in June after he allegedly offered $20 to a 14-year-old boy in West Chester, Pa. for permission to perform oral sex on him.

According to the boy's sworn affidavit, White approached him in a green Ford van and asked if he knew of any strip clubs, adult book stores or shops that sold sexually explicit videos. When then the boy said he did not, White unsuccessfully attempted to lure the boy into the vehicle. White then told the boy he could "make some money" by letting White perform fellatio on him.<<<

4. If you REALLY want some answers
and darned good ones they are, read "When God Becomes a Drug" by Father Leo Booth. Devastating on the fundies and their sexual repression, among other things.

12.  "When God Becomes a Drug"
That is interesting concept.

It has been interesting to me how my siblings traded their drug use for their religion.

I'll have to look for the book.

13. an insightful comment from C.G. Jung
Back in 1928, when presenting a case study, he said of
an anonymous patient,

"...something is not quite right. He tries to be terribly
righteous, and only those who have the ability or tendency
to be very wrong try to be so very right, to attain per-
fection." -- Dream Analysis,

At the thousand foot level, this observation derives
from Jung's view that the unconcious and the ego exist in
a compensatory relationship.

14. Actually, I have read it
About 5-6 years ago. And then gave my copy to the Chaplain, who was having trouble with Fundies on board.

16. That was a great book..
Everyone should read it to understand Right Wing religious guys. They seem to judge to hide what they are wanting or thinking, and most of the time it is about sex.

No idea on the underlying schematics of motivation, but the hypocrisy is thick as peanut butter. If people want to continue to follow these mantras, they can spread it on their toast and keep letting the Whites shove it down their throats. Bon appetit.

18. The latter, I'd say. Although instead of "sex fiend" I'd say...

plain ol' fiend with some *serious* sexual disturbances.

But, yeah. Carol Queen actually coined a terrific term for these people, which I unfortunately can't remember. Groups together conservative anti-gay screamers like Jesse Helms and this guy along with anti-sex crusaders of other political flavors (Andrea Dworkin, etc.) ("Contrasexual," was it? Anyway). Basically, her theory was it's not just projection on the moralizers' parts (i.e. that they secretly want to do the things they rail against)--that's pretty much a gimme. But also, they specifically get off on getting outraged. The idea was that the screaming and ranting and book-burning itself was a weird sort of erotic charge. Actual, more straightforward sex with the reviled object in question (women, teenaged boys, leathermen, whatever) is optional. Clearly, though, it's not enough for these people (the actual, straightforward sex), even if done strictly in the closet. The revulsion they feel, while a mask, is also real; somehow, their sex drives got warped so that they can't get off unless they're disgusted. Fun, fun, fun!
