Minutes to Go: pre-DC protest panic at an ungodly hour

so its somewhere approaching 6am, and I'm feeling those first twinges of "crap, I'm going to regret the hell out of not sleeping..."

Hopefully I'll get that 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th wind at convenient times today.

Failing that, there's always a steady stream of 20 oz coffees until the eyeballs bleed.

Is it wrong to be almost Christmas Eve-excited about something as morbid as an anti-war protest?

Not like I'm getting any presents or anything, but I can't stop the adrenalin and stow the almost oppressive foreboding sensation about DC - the town creeps me out quite a bit, and under the Bush regime, has a certain paranoid under-siege quality that makes for highly overwrought prose.

The phrase "belly of the beast" springs to mind, yes? I don't think I'll quite be able to shake the feeling that somewhere nearby, Dick Cheney is in some concrete bunker working on stunningly ill concieved imperial plans...

Despite the last minute bail out lies of a few friends, I should be sauntering down shortly with a crack commando squad of 5 further film freaks to cause carnage of a celluloid sort.

Look for this twit (sans prop glasses) and his toy:

Please refrain from hitting me very hard for crimes against art if you happen to see me aiming antique cameras at strangely garbed misfits putting on Rumsfeldian Passion Plays.

And now, a question. Has any one been near the Carlyle Group building, and is there a logo of some sort outside it?

Not that, uh, I have any ideas concerning that or anything.

(tuneless whistling)

Be seeing you.

1. Godspeed TBI
We who are not physically in the trenches with you will keep you in our hearts and minds today. IMHO, your "Christmas Eve" feelings are right on.....you are fighting the "good fight" (I always feel that that phrase is a contradiction?), with honorable intentions. Have no second thoughts (easy for ME to say, spouting from the other side of a monitor); just know we are all with you in spirit.

An aside, I like your "prop" glasses. You remind me of one of my favorite "heroes" of yore.....Fearless Fly! (GAWD....does that date me or WHAT???????)

3. heh!
Thanks for the kind words, I had about the same thoughts when I was desk-bound during the last round of protests. This time... Its PERSONAL!

the glasses photo was from the making of a very silly feature entitled I WAS A TEENAGE BEATNIK AND/OR MONSTER!

Bored? In search of extra zest? Intrigued by pictures of unknown quasi-actors? http://terminalproduct.com/beat/beatgallery.html for the awful truth.

Another question for the DCers - can you even get near the White House gates these days, you know, like the reporters do when they babble in front of it?

4. the reporting will be plentiful
if in the form of overly blurry photocollage...

and lots of film/video!

We'll be roving around with 2 camera crews to interview people for my eternally-in-the-unmaking "documentary", THE PARANOIA SHOW...

So if someone asks you why you hate freedom, rest assured he's only kidding.

8. Chant loud & often...
and then chant one more time for me!! Excitement before a protest is normal... well for me it is, so you'll have to consider the source. ;-)

9. A mild euphoria is normal during the first hour of the trip
This is followed by a sense of time distortion, minutes lasting far longer than remembered. When the trip begins, uncontrollable emotions and even mild muscle spasms may result in a feeling of instability. However, these are soon overtaken by the fascinating deluge of sounds and colors as the subject begins to peak.

11. You are our voice this day, TBI.
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 07:42 AM by MGKrebs
Say it loud. Say it proud.

MILLIONS more have you in our hearts today as we go about our business with our figurative wrenches, tweaking the system in our own ways.

THEY LIED TO US.
ONLY WE CAN MAKE THEM ACCOUNTABLE.
WE HAVE THE POWER.

You are heroes.

13. Too late for you to receive this, probably, but...
The Carlyle Group "building" is just an office building on Pennsylvania. TCG is just one of many firms that have offices there, and many of the firms are non-evil. Thus, it is not a very inviting target for clandestine mischeif.

now with substantially more smirking:

Note attempts to disguise dimples due to barely suppressed laughter. This guy babbled about praying every day for troops... he actually came up to us and hollered: "Which side are you on?"

Chris answered with a sharp: "Which side are YOU on..."

"Citizen?"

Of course, he appeared to just out and out hate freedom.

His withered wife babbled about hating "that liberal that woman... uh... what's her name... her name..."

appeared as Xanaxastic as Laura dearest.
