Eric Cantor was on Buchanan and Press last night threatening CBS
Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 03:59 PM by CatWoman
over the Reagan movie.

From the transcript:

PRESS: You’ve mentioned twice here today that CBS has a federal license. Are you suggesting that their license is in jeopardy if they go ahead with this movie?
CANTOR: Bill, I’m just saying I think as a representative of the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia and as a member of Congress we have a duty to make sure that licenses at the federal level are not abused...
CANTOR: ... and abuse means using those licenses to advance a political agenda.
PRESS: So, if this...
BUCHANAN: Bill...
PRESS: ... I’m sorry Pat. If this movie then, what you’re saying-
I hear you saying if this movie goes forward they will be abusing their licenses and therefore the license of CBS is in jeopardy, that’s what Congressman Eric Cantor is saying on BUCHANAN & PRESS...

1. scary, scary thugs
I guess he thinks that 'licenses at the federal level' being abused with one-sided right-wing propaganda are just fine.

4. CBS Does Not Have a License Per Se
But the individual CBS stations have licenses to operate on their assigned frequencies. I called my CBS affiliate earlier today (KKTV, Colorado Springs) - they told me that if the network sends them a program, they're obligated to air it.

That's not to say that they may choose to run it at 3 in the morning.......

6. No, they have to clear it for the specified time.
But don't worry. CBS will chicken out.

5. So...if a network has a political agenda...
They should have their license revoked, or whatever...

If this actually works, at least we'll be able to get rid of Fox News...

9. Welcome to the new world order
Republicans do no wrong. Don't even imply it.

Democrats always do wrong. Feel free to hint to in, and spread the word.

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/bio/?id=8543&lvl=C
Here is his website at congress.org.

I just talked to them, and I got told this was a press matter and the aide did not deal with them. I said no this is freedom of the press and freedom of America matter. He was unable to tell me any grounds for this, had no clue, is going to have the press secretary write me. Yeh, sure.
