What if soldiers at home, on leave, skip the country?

What if soldiers at home on leave from duty in Iraq were to leave the US and go to say Canada or Mexico? Would the US military have any jurisdiction to grab them up and try them for desertion?
No, not literally grab them off the street. But if the country has an extradition treaty, the US embassy in the country asks that the country arrest them and turn them over to the US.

They'd be deserters (big duh, I know) and depending on how obvious of a trail they left, I believe, would be the deciding factor on whether our gov't. goes after them.
