"Moron" vs. "moran". What's the deal?
Ok, this is driving me crazy. I have seen approximately one million (ok, I'm exaggerating) misspellings of the word "moron" (as "moran") on these forums during my relatively short tenure as a DU member.

So, I must know. Is there some connection I'm missing here? Is there some Republican moron named "Moran" which led to the obvious morphing of "moron" into "moran"?

I'm completely serious here. I don't mean to be a member of the spelling police, but "moron" seems like an easy one.

So, what's the deal? Misspelling or an obvious reference that I should understand? I feel like I'm missing something....

Besides, misspelling "moron" kind of weakens the impact of a statement, don't you think? It makes people look like...well...morons! (just kidding) ;)

San Francisco is having one this week end. As I think, is DC.

They should NEVER stop as long as the moran (and he will) keep adding to the world's "Gobal" WTO and NMF take overs.

5. It's intentional
I didn't understand it either, until I read a post about the context. There was a picture of a freeper and he had a sign that said something like "Go Home, Morans" that was directed at an anti-war protest.

So it was ironic that he misspelled the word.

Too bad other misspellings common to DU and message boards in general like "loose" used for "lose", and "noone" used for "no one" do not have the same funny story, and are just silly errors.

9. Spelling moron wrong doesn't make you one...
Just look at how many times you see the non-word "alot" on this forum.

For those who still think "alot" is a word, it's "a lot", "a few", "a dozen", not "alot", "afew", or "adozen".

(end of rant)

20. That picture is how I found DU.
Someone from DU posted that picture on Indymedia around the time that the war started and I sent it to nearly everyone I know with the subject "The US' Elite Republican Guard" (a parody of Saddam's "elite" Republican Guard). At the time, I think the news was using the phrase "Elite Republican Guard" about once every 2 seconds. I got a few laughs from my liberal friends but the rest were pretty pissed off. This was before it was cool to be against the war though.
