Next LS elections only with EVMs, says Tandon (India - voting machines)

Bangalore, July 17. (UNI): The general elections due next year will be conducted only with Electronic Voting Machines (EVM), Election Commissioner B B Tandon reiterated today.

Talking to newspersons here after a meeting with the Delimitation Commission, headed by Justice Kuldip Singh, he said the Election Commission (EC) would require nearly one million EVMs to cover the entire country. Already it had six lakh EVMs and orders have been placed with the Electronics Corporation of India Limited and the Bharat Electronics Limited for the rest. Both the public sector units would be delivering the machines in phases, he added.
