WTF?!?

WASHINGTON (AP) - Playboy playmate Anna Nicole Smith has an unusual bedfellow in the Supreme Court fight over her late husband's fortune: the Bush administration.

The administration's top Supreme Court lawyer filed arguments on Smith's behalf and wants to take part when the case is argued before the justices. The court will decide early next year whether to let the U.S. solicitor general share time with Smith's attorney during the one hour argument on Feb. 28.

Smith, a television reality star and native Texan, plans to attend the court argument. She is trying to collect millions of dollars from the estate of J. Howard Marshall II, the oil tycoon she married in 1994 when he was 89 and she was a 26-year-old topless dancer in Houston. Marshall died in 1995.

Like Marshall, President Bush was a Texas oil man. Both attended Yale. Both held government positions in Washington.

2. Shameful!
I haven't checked to see what the key issues in this suit are, but off hand I am peeved that we are spending govt. money on this private matter.

4. Shades of Schiavo, RE: govt interference. When will they ever
learn? And I have to ask, is this legal? Is she paying for the lawyers and are they working for her?

3. They don't care about ANS
"The Bush administration's filings in the case are technical. Without getting into the details of the family squabble, Solicitor General Paul Clement said that the justices should protect federal court jurisdiction in disputes."

I don't know what it means.... but I doubt they're up to any good.

9. Ah, it makes sense to me now.
The case had proceeded in two different courts -- a state probate court in Houston, and a federal bankruptcy court in Los Angeles, IIRC. The two courts reached different verdicts about how much of Marshall's $$$ Anna was entitled to. Hence the appeal to see which court had paramount jurisdiction.

Seems to me the Bushies are asking the court to honor the federal judgment for Anna at the expense of the state judgment for Marshall's son.

5. What does Anna Nicole Smith know about Shrub from...
J. Howard Marshall II?

Find that out, and you'll find the reason why.

6. The entire gov't seemed capable of getting together for a dead woman
24 hours as I recall. Will that standard ever be forgotten? Not by those of us who know how useless this administration is. 24 hours to meet, greet and pass legislation that they favored and the american public overwhelmingly did not favor. Their God created the universe in 6 days and they reinvented the US in one day.

8. maybe there is some kind of rivalry between Howard and the Bush's
all from texas, oil bus. and all and it's payback time. Dubya is in a position to ruin the family.
