Question: Shouldn't Bolton be gone now?
Doesn't his temporary recess appointment end with the end of this last session of congress? As I remember, recess appointments expire at the end of the next session of congress....

1. I was asking my wife this last night
watching a rerun of the West Wing where they discussed a recess appointment. And I looked over and said "Hey isn't Bolton about due to have that apt of his reviewed and booted?".

Anyone have any info on this?

2. Oh, we'll probably find out in a few days that Our Fearless Leader
signed a super-seceret Executive Order naming him Patriotic Domestic Spying Czar for Life or something.

3. I believe his appointment is good through 06.
could be wrong on this one, but I think it's good till a new congress is sworn in.

6. Close: actually runs until January '07.
Bolton's appoinment is valid until the first day of the 110th Congress, which is January 2, 2007.

16. Well, yeah- you can dream, Marie.
Bolton is immune to any fallout from domestic spying. In his old job, he was Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, so the NSA was not part of his brief. Nothing to hang on Bolton there.

4. I think the recess appointment
goes through the elections in '06. When the new congress convenes in Jan.,'07 he would have to be voted on again or be out. I suppose if they don't have the quorum he could just recess appoint him once again.

8. From August WaPo article

"Bolton's term, by law, expires when the current Congress concludes on Jan. 3, 2007. Bolton thus has less than a year and half to implement changes at the United Nations -- unless he wins over Senate critics in the interim or gets another recess appointment, which by law would require him to work without pay for the final two years."

He's in there at least another year I guess. I'm surprised that a recess appointment, designed to fill a post on an emergency, temporary basis, lasts that long.

12. I'm glad you asked this; I, too, was wondering when that twatmouthed
little pud with that ridiculous mustache would finally be kicked to the curb. You know, even if I didn't know his politics, his mere appearance screams "asshole" so much that I probably would've disliked him on first sight--and that, w/o even knowing that he was a neocon scum.

13. Final answer
The final answer appears to be: Yes he should be gone...he never should have been appointed, but he gets to stay till January 07.
