Wow! hippies destroyed america because they are selfish

this is what a caller said on Wash. Journal this morning. and on other mornings I've heard the same thing. what is it with people who hate 'hippies'? you don't see hippie bashing in the TV, newspaper media. I don't listen to radio or go to church, so is that where they are getting the hate hippie message? what the hell kind of power do they think hippies have?

other callers said baby boomers should pay their own way with no SS or medicare/caid. another said SS was a ponzi scheme. are they getting this crap from Rush?

and in the last mo. or so callers are saying we should all get along, not to diss the pres., love one another, ad nauseum. callers didn't used to say this.

where is all this kool aide coming from? right-wing radio? churches? how can we counteract this?

can we have a little discussion.

are shills for the local corporate repukes - organized by the stations to call in this crap.

Why do people suck up the msm like it actually means anything?

I am so sick of these msm empty suits and talking heads - they spew only the party and corporate lines. Has this not sunk in yet!?! It is gibberish! It is hogwash! It is mass hypnosis! Do you think that seeing something on television or hearing it on the radio makes it "more real?" Leave it behind - for your own good. Counteract it by getting up and do something FOR the dems or the political activist group of your choice. Thats real.

Sorry if that seems a bit harsh - but I don't take RW pond scum puking points seriously.

on edit - sp and grammar.

effort of others. Sadly, I cannot give quarter to the RW puking points.

on edit:

I have become very cynical toward the purveyers of RW rhetoric. Once you put energy into responding to RW provocations, it is gone. Let the RW waste resources in trying provoke wasted effort and diversionary actions. That is a business that they know all too well.

BTW - I am 50+ and consider myself part of the hippie era. But getting sucked into feeling like there is something to defend there is not my idea of energy well spent.

2. I knew it! I knew it!
It's them fuckin hippies causing all these problems.

Seriously though although I didn't hear the caller and I haven't seen a hippie in 20 years, these are people who hate the '60's because that was a time when a lot of people woke up and stopped believing the bullshit that politicians of both parties fed us.

Too friggin bad but the culture wars of the '60's are over and THE HIPPIES WON.

or Eric Rudolph thing, of blowing up people. I doubt seriously that most people of today even understands what the hippy movement was all about.

This women just got the right to vote in 1922 and is still getting screwed on equal rights and she's bashing without even knowing she is being used like a ten cent whore.

They started it all - those bongos were pounding out subliminal sub-sonic brainwashing rays. They started the whole godless coffeeshop worship cult and don't get me started about the sedition of the "open-mike" poetry nights.

7. I'm a old hippy from Ca. during the 60s
By speaking out and not backing off we brought awareness about Nam war and by speaking out we helped stop the war in Nam and got our troops home...that's what they fear...we will do it again...we will keep speaking out until the rest of the public get a clue and start asking questions and looking for answers to all this crazy stuff.I remember the day that many who thought I was crazy... ended up standing beside the rest of us...shouting Bring Them Home.I believe that is why the media hasn't reported about the anti war movement...it may catch on if the public saw people speaking out and they could hear the points the people are making.Look how fast we are hearing more and more about impeachment, once it get aired for the public to hear,it starts becoming a topic many start talking about.

or no hair. It is the "day trippers" that turned the movement into a fad, then after they didn't have to worry about being drafted, discovered cocaine and disco, and became raygun re:puke:s.

As for the bottom feeder blaming the hippies, I wonder what HE was doing during Viet Nam?

If only our chant of "Make love, not war" would be the meme of the 21st Century. :hippie:

15. I was just laughing to myself about that the other day.
Those filthy hippies destroyed this country. Their beads. Their flowers. Their love-ins. Their peace signs.

Damn those hippies!

But I was joking. And they're not. Now that is sad. Fat lumps of hate, sitting on their couches, watching Fox, living 40 years in the past, and needing something to hate and blame. Too bad they're so stupid. Get with it people! You have a fascist running the show now. Those hippies are long gone. And clean up your couch, damnit! :)

I'm searching for a place where people are still people. I'm failing. I grew up in SF, and remember the peace signs. But they seem to have left the area. Sure they got older and cut their hair. But the whole sentiment has gone. I move to the country, and all I find are rednecks. Well, that's a short blog for what I've been doing.

27. I heard that--does he mean the naked, barefoot hippies who gave away
all their posessions and hitchiked to India?

Or the fat, miltary haircut hippes who inherited their dad's companies and took revenge for their inability to have fun by screwing the workers? Which hippies are the selfish ones?

Boomers don't fit into stereotypes very well. Our generation is enormously diverse.

That guy was nutty anyway--Steve eventually cut off his ravings.

How can we counteract that? I think we are too late. We're screwed.

Perpetrated by all those guys who, back in the 60s, couldn't get girls because said guys were Vacation Bible veterans with Arrow shirts and pocket protractors. They have since encouraged this hatred of hippies.

36. "How can we counteract this?" The way to counteract this is
to forget about the attack on hippies. Instead of defending hippies, which would only draw more attention to the wrong thing, we should attack THEM, the right wing by replacing the word "hippies" with "right wing": "The right wing destroyed America because they are selfish."

I think because they sucker us into positions of defense, we forget that it would be more effective to go on the attack instead.

sometimes call them bastards and wanna puke. Seems like the puke moments are far more often the past few seasons. I don't watch at all now, but my teenage boys won't miss it. I make sure I pass thru the living room a couple times during the show, and they'll tell me what mean/homphobic/gross thing they just did. We've had a few real deep conversations about several issues due to something we saw on South Park. :)

The Satan/Saddam thing though! That was the one that really turned me off.
