The year when an outpouring of charity trumped the immorality of a billion

Johann Hari's case for charity

On Christmas, we are supposed to say something nice on charity, and this is what Johann Hari tries to accomplish. Well, under close examination, main bulk of his Christmas article comes straight from Wiki. The challenge is to present it as something newsworthy - hence the references to tsunami and Wal-Mart. Most importantly, Mr.Hari "forgets" to mention that Ayn Rand died in 1982, this would spoil the breaking news effect.

Apparently, this article is supposed to confirm Mr.Hari's leftie credentials. The problem is, it does not work this way. Ideologically, Ayn Rand is to the far right from the National Socialists who believed in welfare state - for the master race. So, being to the left from Rand does not really say much.
