I'm calling on you DU---Goddammit let's do something !!
Ridicule me or hit your back button if you want....but I think this has merit and I’m going to fight for it.

Yesterday I wrote a short post for a way to immediately convey that you want Bush impeached. It got little support. So I’m going to make my case again. This time with rationale.

Are we going to just rant on DU to each other how much we hate this bastard and type in large letters impeach impeach impeach? Or goddammit are we going to organize and do something ?

If I’m wrong, this costs nothing and zero harm is done. If I’m right and this can catch on, we could possibly make history. We have to do something. We have credible people, even news organizations using the impeachment word. Liklihood of this would have been thought more far out than a Flash Gordon movie a year ago.

The concept is simple.

Drive with your headlights on during the day --AND A MUST-- a sign in your back window or bumper sticker, saying something to this effect-–drive with lights on if U want Bush impeached.

:bluebox::bluebox::bluebox::bluebox::bluebox::bluebox::bluebox:

1... It’s immediate... You can do it the next time you get in your car.

2... It’s cheap...Costs nothing to have headlights on. As for the sign, make one on your computer, hand write it, doesn’t matter. A two part professional bumper sticker even better, but still cheap. Most important we start showing the message.

3... It gets instant visibility...As soon as your car is on the road, everyone who sees your sign knows you have your lights on for a reason.

4... Can reach a large number of people quickly. Think about how many people see the back of your car during the course of a day. Let alone the front.

5... When your car is parked, anyone who sees your sign still gets the message. That’s why it’s important the sign not be so short initially that it doesn’t explain the concept.

5... Only meaningful during the day? True. But how many people are seeing your contempt for this bastard now? Your message would reach a lot of people this way immediately and hopefully the movement would grow.

6... Some said, my lights come on automatically as a feature of the car...Great, what’s wrong with that? You favor impeachment don’t you? All you need then is your sign.

7... Plus imagine the side benefit of that...Rich corporate freeper assholes driving along with their Beemers or Lexus are forced to participate in our movement because they have no way to turn their lights off. That should make you laugh just thinking about it. You go by them in your 1999 Chevrolet or Honda and wave. They wave back thinking you’re just a friendly person and then they see your sign. That hasn't made you laugh yet?

8... Instant acknowledgment by others...If you see somebody wave or honk and turn their lights on, how great will that make you feel? Imagine even 20 people a day flipping their lights on. And then telling their friends. Think about it. If you saw someone with the sign, would you turn yours on? Damn right you would!

9... The time couldn’t be more perfect...Conyers has just made his detailed report public, some congress members have signed on for the inquiry, newspapers are writing about it, hearings are scheduled for the illegal wiretaps. We have to do something people can visually see and join in, and we have to do it NOW !!

10... Will start slow?...Of course! But the longest journey starts with the first step. And every day, you will have instant confirmation how many others acknowledge you if their lights come on. Now they can start influencing others.

11... This concept won’t be noticed?... Huh? That’s nonsense. Just the opposite. What per centage of cars do you see driving with their headlights on during the day now? A fraction at best.

12... Will aggravate every republican that knows about it ...As more and more cars start running with their headlights on, it will be growing evidence we are starting an effective drumbeat for impeachment. Without a doubt as word spreads, it will also become more and more irritating. How often can you get daily gratification that more and more republicans are getting pissed off? And you could personally do it just by it driving by one. Don’t forget they will see the signs as well as the lights.

13... Our radio stations such as Air America could put out the word immediately to thousands and thousands of people to spread the word to join in. You think people wouldn’t be making their sign? I can hear the photo shops clicking away now.

14... It wouldn’t take a huge number of people to start lighting up the highways and the media will start reporting it... Once that happens, even with the smallest publicity at first, it will take off from there. It will become self proliferating. More people will get the message, more media will see more cars uniting in this funeral procession and then more media coverage. The chicken and the egg.

16... Right wing grand oil party congress will never impeach?...Oh really? How come Richard Nixon resigned in disgrace? All he did was condone a little burglary. Bush has committed treason. And now he’s even signed an executive order to insure he can spy on those who want to expose it. With raging public support and headlights on all over America showing we favor it, you think congress won’t think twice about trying to justify this multiple felon should remain president? Semen stain ring a bell?

15... It’s silly, will never catch on?...Not with that attitude it won’t. Remember the Baby on Board sticker or smiley wagger thing? Tell me that didn’t catch on. The whole damn country knew about it. Impeachment is not just a looney bin fringe left concept anymore. We have to give it legs now. Hard, quick and immediate visual. Our cars saturate the roads. Can you imagine how mind blowing it would be if you left for work tomorrow, and fity per cent of the people you saw had their headlights and tail lights on WHEN NORMALLY THEY WOULD BE OFF? 85% of the people in the recent MSNBC poll said they favored impeachment. Others had similar support. Most of these people are equally as angry and passionate as we are and just waiting for a way to show it.

Messages, emails to congress of course have some impact. But does that show a cohesive organized visible national unity? Does a letter to the editor? The republican congress members need to start seeing something they can't contain, control or ignore. Outrage. Lights on all over America where we live. Horns blowing, people giving thumbs up. Tim Russert on Meet the Press saying--congressman people are angry, there is a growing organizing grassroots movement of people showing they want Bush impeached by driving with their headlights on during the day. And it's working. Hundreds of thousands of cars all over America are driving with their lights on. This is serious. If that happenened, do I have to tell you? :nuke:

My biggest problem is getting the ideal words for the sign. It's critical others also get the word to put the identical sign in their car. We can send this post to other blog hosts. I'm going to send it to Air America, to see what they think. One thing I'm not going to do, is nothing! As soon as I get the perfect words for my sign, my lights are on. What is the universal symbol for a funeral? Lights on!! We can start the national campaign for the chance of a lifetime, death of the Bush presidency.

If you got a better idea that is as quick, as cheap, as easy, and can start to show a like thinking unity of as many people in this very short a time, LETS HEAR IT!!!!!!!

If not, get behind me, let’s start brainstorming what our sign should say and let’s get this party started !!!

1. Hi Justice
First great idea. I'm sure others would love to comment or agree but it appears many of us are away for the holiday. I bet things will pick up in a few days.

5. Good ideas. But # 16 is a bust:
grand oil party ( love it ; I'm using it) was a *minority* is House and Senate in 73. Supreme Court was overwhelmingly Democratic appointees.

Also, the $$$ media was infinitely less conservative then than it is now. In those days, latitude was given to journalists to engage in actual "journalism". They reins have long since been pulled. Now the various Barbies and Kens parrot the party line. Don't expect anything more of them.

I might make the argument that it could make more sense politically to focus on retaking one or both houses of Congress next year and then work on impeachment... as impeachment now might scare potential DEM voters off.

6. I think a massive protest march in all major cities is in order
We've had successful marches in the past, we should have one to just demand impeachment. Cities, towns, street corners, whereever you are, protest and demand impeachment that day. If we have enough people in enough places, even a media black out can't keep the people from knowing.

See ya in LaFayette Park (in front of the White House) during a march soon!

10. I think a sign in the rear window is better.
Once we can somehow get enough people to be aware that driving with your lights on shows you support impeaching, the sign wouldn't be necessary. That would be mission accomplished, downhill from there.

It's only initially that we have to have enough cooperating to get this national message started. The oak grew from the acorn, not the other way around.

We have a choice. Do nothing or do something. At least this is free and there is growing passion out there. We have to punch through that first barrier. If it's just ten of us talking, we'll just be ten idiots with our lights on. We have to get someone with enough clout to talk seriously to a large enough audience. And enough of us on this forum have to help. I'm going to try to at least propose this is an idea.

I know it's a long road. Do we want to keep hearing some more of Bush's speeches, his heh heh heh, more deaths in Iraq, more ways which our constitution is being ridiculed? Do we want Conyers to be a voice shouting alone?
