Dear Gov. Dean -- It’s no longer baseball …
Edited on Sun Dec-25-05 10:17 PM by understandinglife
26 December 2005 (# 21)

I realize that the DNC, DCCC, DSCC, and a variety of other Democratic Party organizations have all their org charts, turf, and whatever. I’ve struggled for most of 2005 to develop a terse analogy -- a way of informing all of you that politics-as-usual is over in America.

I realize that perhaps even more than half of the voting age citizens in America do not need analogies to understand that Bush, Cheney and their neoconster minions, along with their mega-buck financial and media collaborators, are destroying everything America is supposed to be. What those folk also recognize is the abject failure of the Democratic Party to bring unambiguous leadership to the ballot, and to demand verifiable results at the polls.

So, this analogy is largely for the folk huddled inside the beltway taking polls and twitching every time a leader like Congressman Conyers, Slaughter, Lee and the CBC, or Senator Byrd, Feingold or Boxer (and, recently, Congressman Murtha) speak truth.

So, here’s the terse analogy, Gov. Dean.

The Democratic Party today, 26 December 2005, is like a player who’d pick up his bat and walk to the plate after the pitcher just shredded the previous two batters with .50 cal machine gun bursts.

Gov. Dean, the Republicans are not playing baseball.

They have not been playing baseball since 1994.

After what they did to Gore in 2000, and Cleland (and a bunch of others) in 2002, you’d have thought Kerry would step the plate armed with several hellfire missiles instead of a bat.

Not to be.

They swift-boated one arm, flip-flop’d the other arm, and during the afternoon and evening of November 2, 2004, they vaporized him with Diebold, ES&S and Sequoia. Not being one’s to assume their ammo wouldn’t run out, they suppressed countless numbers of folk from being able to vote.

In the intervening year, they’ve crushed everything from the 4th Amendment, to habeas corpus, to the Geneva Conventions, to ..., and they've murdered, tortured and maimed countless numbers of folk.

Do you want to have some chance of saving the Republic and ending the neoconsters from permanently converting America into a totalitarian militaristic imperial power using “democracy” as an excuse to kill and torture people and steal their resources?

If so, give the Nation and all of humanity something to celebrate on January 1, 2006, and something to fight for until the neoconsters are brought to justice.

Announce that every single Member of Congress worthy of claiming the “Democratic Party” as their banner has signed Articles of Impeachment against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, and Gonzales (that’s the starter short list).

Urge Senator Reid and Congresswoman Pelosi to hold an immediate, secure hearing as to enable Sibel Edmonds to testify, under oath, to all she knows. For starters, that’s likely to take Hastert off the neoconster team roster and give him and his lawyers much to do in the coming years.

“America, Or Not?” -- Gov. Dean.

What’s it going to be? Do we keep pretending the neoconsters are playing a fair game of baseball, or do we halt the game and hold them accountable for what they are -- brutal enemies of the Constitution and of all humanity.

Onward,

p.s. “comity” is a euphemism for not having the guts to empty the dug-out when a team member has been assaulted – Rep. Tom Ford should be called on to mentor all House and Senate Dems on when it’s time to cross the aisle.

Peace.

To tell the professional apologists to quit chasing the Damn Mythical "center" and stand up to the thugs. If it means the end of political careers, so be it. Better to Stand for Something than fall for anything.

... we need much more and, importantly, he needs support from Members of Congress.

Just make a little change to what I think may be a typo:

After what they did to Gore in 2000, and Cleland (and a bunch of others) in 2002, you’d have thought Kerry would step (up to) the plate armed with several hellfire missiles instead of a bat.

Happy holidays again, UL. :)

10. There's those unsubstantiated election conspiracy claims that embarass us
They swift-boated one arm, flip-flop’d the other arm, and during the afternoon and evening of November 2, 2004, they vaporized him with Diebold, ES&S and Sequoia. Not being ones to assume their ammo wouldn’t run out, they suppressed countless numbers of folk from being able to vote.

Any candidate taking those claims and repeating them would be slaughtered (very spirited commentary, though).

16. I love that quote from Ford at the end..."comity" is...
" “comity” is a euphemism for not having the guts to empty the dug-out when a team member has been assaulted"

That's the problem. I remember clearly how Gore had to stand very much alone to fight the neomonsters in 2000. We can Monday Morning Quarterback his moves, and I have for the sake of understanding superior strategies. We cannot doubt his willingness to hang in there. It was weeks and he didn't back down until the SOTUS (criminal element) selected Bush in repayment for their appointment to the court by Republicans.

We'll see what they do. I hope they stand tall and I hope never to see another Ben Nelson, LIEberman, or Landrieu in our party again. Never. You can be a moderate conservative and fight like hell for the Democrats. These people are not that, they are vacillators, game players of the worst kind.

Keep old Howard reading;)

peeping over the edge, he say, "...please, please, take it away!"

He should read these letters, it would remind him of who he tried to convince us he was. Not working to well now, signal fading...can't hear "Dean"...

If not this, what will it take?

If not now, then when will Democrats rise up and kick some ass.

Lord, we have a tradition that goes way back. FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson ... none of them took Republican grief. They fought hard, let people know they could lead because they were willing to defend themselves and their party.

"Oh Dr. Dean, it's another one of those letters." :freak:

27. I heard an excellent interview on NPR this am with Harper's Editor
Lewis Lapham who is leaving to start a new magazine which will take a current issue and do an historical analysis on the subject. He talked about the "criminal" administration and how he doesn't believe democracy can not work for us because it requires participation and people paying attention. He spoke of Americans myopic view, only concerned with our country while the rest of the world differs. When asked if there was a republican who he admires, he quoted Cicero

I recommend listening to this:

As Cheney once told his staff, principle is great unless it stops you from winning.

The bullies who whine that you're not playing fair will be the first to turn around and kick you in the nuts.

Great letter, again, UL. I wish you, your family, and all of us a New Year, bringing a renewed life and vigor to democracy as we slough off the crust of greed and corruption that has too long laid claim to this nation.
