Congress doesn't take control because they don't want responsibility
They don't want to be responsible for the pursuit of terrorists,

They don't want responsibility for the occupation of Iraq,

They could impeach Bush, force him to follow the law,

They could halt the funding of the war,

But, so far, they haven't,

Why the hell not?

Naked fear.

Fear of elections,

Fear of appearing chicken,

Fear of opponents calling them unpatriotic,

Fear of another terrorist attack just as they take charge,

Fear of having to take back all of their rhetoric supporting war,

Fear of failing to achieve the things they rightly castigated Bush for.

8. Bingo !!! - Now What Eavesdropping Would A FISA Court Fail To Approve ???
Eavesdropping on your political enemies of course!

And... I've always suspected that when Cheney was in charge of the Vice-Presidential selection team for Campaign 2000, he gathered all sorts of juicy tidbits on powerful people in his own party through the vetting process, and then...

Picked himself as VP.

Who was gonna bitch? And who was gonna stand up to them?

3. Fear of doing some work...
for a change. Get busy, you guys. You've sat on your backsides too long. We're on the road to hell and you don't have the courage to stand up and start yelling. We are screaming it but you don't seem to be listening. What does it take to make you start doing something more than send us "form" e-mails?

4. Same reason far RW has dominated national politics for over 50 years: fear
of being labeled soft of communism (results, Korea and Vietnam in particular); soft of crime and drugs (reason for so many insane laws where the those convicted of non-violent crimes are often put away, sometimes for decades at a societal cost of hundreds of billions of dollars), soft of defense (grossly over funding the defense department at the expense of all other societal needs), need I go on? :grr:

5. True
Then you get Dems like Lieberman who stroke Bushs war.

Read an article in The Nation today about Move on Dems running serious candidates against these types this year. The established Washington corporate whores like Lieberman will be finding themselves without jobs come next election.

6. When the job of Senator or Representative becomes a career ...
... it lose it's representative heart. We should have never allowed them to have pensions based on tenure. Not only does 'incumbancy' bring power, it also brings fear of opposition. That fear motivates a term-long quest for cash and alliances. Their (so-called) leadership PACs are campaign-funding money laundries.

7. never thought of the pensions and tenure
I suppose it's like the rest of their perks. Why we let them vote their own pay raises is beyond me.
