Michael Moore was right at the Academy Awards.
Edited on Thu Jul-17-03 02:32 PM by Liberal_Guerilla
ACCEPTANCE SPEECH
"Michael Moore: Whoa. On behalf of our producers Kathleen Glynn and Michael Donovan from Canada, I'd like to thank the Academy for this. I have invited my fellow documentary nominees on the stage with us, and we would like to — they're here in solidarity with me because we like nonfiction. We like nonfiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fictition of duct tape or fictition of orange alerts we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you. And any time you got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up. Thank you very much."

He was absolutely right on when he said, "We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons."

Where are all of the Fascist bastards who booed him on stage? Where are these traitors, these cowards? Where are they as our soldiers and the Iraqi peoples get brutally murdered day by day....? Where are these cowards?!! Stand up and account for your selves.

Michael Moore is a true hero of the constitution and the American people, i think that he has done enough to redeem himself since selection 2000.

Thank you Michael Moore, Thank you.

2. He should apologize to Gore
He would redeem himself with me if he did that. To date Moore has still not apologize for his role in the 2000 election. If he were to do that then I would not be harsh on him any more.

4. Good luck,
No one admits to being wrong anymore, no one. It's become a world of irresponsibility. And Bush is the leader of the blame others for my shortcomings crowd.

5. He did...
He realized towards the end that Nader was taking away votes from Gore in the swing states, and he tried to talk Nader into backing off, but he wouldn't...all explained in "Stupid White Men"...

10. Read the last chapter
He then says "he would do it again".

That's my opinion on Moore. I can't respect him for what he did in the 2000 election.

And until he makes some amends that are serious then I will not take him seriously.

Moore has his fans here. They have every right to like him. I just happen to not be one of his fans.

20. Jiacinto your mis-guided emotions drown out your reason.
How sad that people throw babies at with the bath water.
Go ahead eat your own. It was K. Harries purging the thousands of black voters, and Gore's bullshit muddy campaign. To blame someone else for your (Gore) lose highlights your unwillingness to take personal responsibility, and is a sandbox schoolyard mantra. Yes I voted for Gore. If DEAN does not win the DEM nomination I will not blame the other 9 candidates for running.

21. Sorry
Moore and Nader lied about Gore throughout the campaign. I do blame them for their role in the fiasco. I truly belive that had Nader not been in the race Gore would have won.

I blame Bush, Harris, the Supreme Court et al for 75% of what happened. But I do blame Nader for helping the other three listed above get that 25% need to close the deal.

23. oo god....
here we go again. You know what I don't think anyone in there right mind would have expected all this to go down in the last 3 years and I'd bet neither did you.

Everytime I turn around we get remarks about people who at least attempted to do some sort of good and they just get shit on!!! You would have probably blamed Jesus before they crusified him.

11. Nonsense!
Moore followed his own beliefs. He supported Nader because he didn't think the Dems offered enough. He may have changed his mind when it looked like Nader might sink Gore -- which was also his right.

I held my nose and voted for Gore. I get angry when Dems suggest that the Greens had no right to run a candidate of their own. Such Democrat arrogance is just one of the many reasons that we need alternative parties, including the Greens. And if Lieberman gets the Dem nomination, I'll need the Greens: so I can vote for someone for president. Otherwise, I'll vote Dem.

And note: Nader didn't keep Gore from winning -- Gore won. The votes for Nader may have kept Gore from winning so overwhelmingly that the election couldn't be stolen; but that is conjectural.

14. I won't get into this circular debate again that repeats itself
daily. But Nader and Moore played a significant rolling in turning this country over to the Bush forces. Yes Nader had every right to run. I don't dispute that, but he and his supporters have no right to bitch about Bush because they knew fully well that the outcome of their votes might very well be the government we have know.

The Greens have every right to run. And people have every right to vote for the Greens. But don't complain about Bush. And don't come to DU with the self-righteous sanctimony that many of the Greens bring forth here.

And also don't complain when programs like Head Start are dismantled because those are the consequences of voting Green. But why do I have a feeling that you, like Moore who lives in a very rich part of NYC, won't be making any of the "sacrifices"?

15. That's a Red Herring on this tread, Carlos
It has absolutely nothing to do with whether Moore's remarks in Santa Monica were right. And, in fact, they were.

So were the Dixie Chicks, Al Franken and the rest of the "Hollywood elite", France, Germany, Russia, DU, millions of war protestors across the world, and every other group that has been bashed by the right for years. I demand an apology from each and every one of these assholes.

Moore's told it before and he will tell it again.

I can't wait for the next book, and I hope he stick with his proposed title: 'Dude, Where's My Country?'

I demand an apology for her also! The woman was vilified for daring to speak the truth!

Well guess what, the truth is coming out so fast they can't produce enough paper to keep up with it.

Cynthia you win! We love you, love you, love you! :loveya:

where are those who stood up here on DU and supported the war, not out of any sense that it was the right thing to do, but because they feared for the 2004 elections?

22. Damm right he was right - video link to Moore at Oscars
I loved that speech at the Academy Awards - he was a couple of months ahead of the mainstream. Moore is working on "Farenheit 911 - The Temperature at which Democracy Burns" to completely expose * and all his lies. Don't know if Moore can wait until Fall 2004 to release it with all the shit going down now.

Go to either site to see Moore's press conference just after receiving the Oscar. You'll love it. If you have 56K dial up it might take a while.
