Martin Bashir: Yecch!
They replaced Ted Koppel with HIM???!!

A tabloid mouthpiece?

I was no fan of Koppel but Bashir is the equivalent of pond scum--repulsive, sycophantic...

Help me out here. I'm at a loss for words.

1. Writing Campaign to CNN got rid of Robert Novak (but Fox signed him)
I've never heard of Bashir but I don't watch TV just read about the things going on. Will write if have a little more info on Bashir.

===http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form1.html?39=

==Take Action: Urge CNN not to renew Robert Novak's contract ==Last August, CNN suspended syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak, a frequent contributor to the cable news channel's programs, for uttering an obscenity and storming
off the set. He has not been reinstated but is currently in negotiations with CNN to renew his contract (which is set to expire in 2006). Please click here and urge CNN not to renew his contract!

Novak should not be a contributor to CNN. In the two years since he exposed former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV's wife, Valerie Plame, as a CIA operative, Novak has made several contradictory statements about important issues in the case. In addition, he has a long history of spreading conservative misinformation on CNN.

Take action! Click here to contact CNN and take a stand against Novak's conservative misinformation.

==Rove Discussed Programming With Public TV Chief, Konz Says

Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Presidential adviser Karl Rove and Kenneth Tomlinson, then chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, discussed creating a "conservative" talk show and adding it to the public television lineup, the organization's top investigator said...

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aHe...

"What can we do about the mainstream media? Mail letters to advertisers, mail letters to their CEO's advising we will not watch lies and propaganda. I was so angry, I cancelled my cable.

Imagine . . .paying 55 dollars a month to be lied to. People are so addicted to their television. When asked why I told Comcast "I will NOT pay for propaganda and lies twice, my tax dollars already pay for it."

Support carriers such as the Dish the provide "Democracy Now", "INN World Report" and the soon to exist "Independent World Television". Donate what you would pay for cable to independent, non corporate funded media Venues . . .like IWT, and INN World and even The Brad Blog. Those are the people that deserve your dollars, not the propaganda oligarchal liars who are getting it. When people realize this, and companies lose money, ONLY then will we take our media back."

4. I get "Democracy Now" via Comcast cable, INN World Report as I recall was
bumped off my Comcast line up by Al Gore's Current, and Independent World Television's been negotiating with Comcast to carry it as part of its In Demand video.

By the way, is the last section of your post yours? It's in quotes so perhaps you were quoting the same post here in the comments section of a Huffington Post article? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brad-friedman/pssstmainstream-media_b_9498.html Just curious.

Bashir's a former BBC reporter, worked for ABC's 20/20 and is most known in the States for his (gack) program on Michael Jackson.

2. Outrageous- I have the proof he is a stooge!!!
Ok i don't have the proof BUT- in 1975 in the Church Committee hearings into the many activities of the CIA- it was discovered that from the 1940's to the early 70's up to 4,000 journalists were on the payroll or passed on information to the CIA------especially the WAshington Post- Katherine Harris

AT worst BAshir like the buffoons GEraldo and O Ryley ( Mr Peabody my ass) are fools that see the story as about furthering their careers.

It's a disgrace- at one time reporters were more removed from the access of power and were more working class and middle class.-----OPEration MOckingBird- check that out!!!!

3. Bashir's one of three anchors on the new Nightline. Terry Moran &
Cynthia McFadden are the others. Go figure. Nightline meets 20/20? And loses.
