Men and Jane Roe v. Henry Wade
So now another right wing supreme court nominee has had his anti-choice beliefs come out. Many get upset, and rightfully so, but if you notice it's women who get more upset and are more vocal. I've heard the statement from men "I support a woman's right to chose, not my or the government's business," and then move on to other issues. Many falsely think about this as a "woman's issue." Sorry but the equal protection clause applies to this as well! And while the procedure of terminating an unwanted pregnancy is the most debated and mentioned right that is exercised because of this and preceding case law it is not the only rights that would be lost.

If we have a court that determines our bodies are subject to state regulation and control, everyone is effected. Yes under court order we can have our privacy rights removed for specific things. With the order of a judge we can have our houses, offices and even bodies searched. As we are protected now, we can not have our bodies controlled without having committed a very serious crime. Reversing Jane Roe v. Henry Wade changes all of this. And it changes it for both genders.

Combined with constitutional amendments in many states defining marriage contracts, the slippery slope is greased and ready to go. Think how scary the fact of an amendment with legislative intent of marriage being between one man and one woman partially because "marriage in part exists to create children." Now combine that with no protection of your control and regulation of your body. How long before there is a lawsuit to claim there is a "right to children?" Or a right to five children? Or a right to force a vasectomy reversal? Or a right to have your sperm frozen for your wife's use as she sees fit?

Or a right to know your spouse's genetic map? What about a right to alter his/her genetic map? And if we are able to map genetics maybe it wouldn't have to be a spouse sue to find out, since marriage is defined as something that creates children by legislative intent in many states state law could force a genetic map and removal of things "detrimental to society's health and safety."

To me this is the most basic of human rights, my knowing that I control what goes on in my body. With out this basic right what can happen? I have mentioned a few scary things but there are countless others, what could happen if there were a true "generational war," in which soldiers after soldiers were needed in uniform? What if global warming or disease destroys our ability to produce food and livestock? What if epidemic disease catastrophicly overwhelms the world's or nation's healthcare system?

1. It is really about privacy
more than it is about abortion specifically. Many of the rightwingers also want to overturn Griswold which would prevent most people from having access to birth control. I am sure most men wouldn't like that at all.
