1. I've seen a little of this story
Still didn't pay enough attention to know what the hell is happening or what it is about.
Whenever the MSM gets stories like this revved up I figure it's just another diversionary "missing blond" story.

2. a portion of each doll sale went to Girls,Inc and the fundies

flipped because Girls, Inc. support Roe v. Wade, contraception, and lesbians. We can't have that, can we. Unfortunately, mattel caved. We need to pressure them, as the gays did with Ford who now will put back in ads in gay magazines. Corporations need to know we exist.

3. I had just bought one of their "I Can" bracelets. It's still un-opened

They told me that their contract was only for 2005, so they're not really "caving-in," it just "expired."

I told the lady she's full of shit.

Anyway, their returns department:

5. Just a clarification in the address above--it's Middleton not Middlessex
Probably not critical since the zip code is right. But it's better to be accurate.

Supporting a program that enables girls to feel good about themselves! how freaking dreadful

Girls Bill of Rights is as follows

Girls have the right to be themselves and to resist gender stereotypes.

Girls have the right to express themselves with originality and enthusiasm.

Girls have the right to take risks, to strive freely, and to take pride in success.

Girls have the right to accept and appreciate their bodies.

Girls have the right to have confidence in themselves and to be safe in the world.

Girls have the right to prepare for interesting work and economic independence.

6. Before you bash American Girl or think that the fundies won. . .
. . .read this.

-snip-
Clarification: American Girl responded after viewing the CBS report, saying while they considered the report fair and balanced they wanted to point out the "I Can" program and Girls Inc. partnership was always planned as a 2005 initiative and the end date of Dec 26, 2005, was mutually agreed upon by both parties.

In the corporate world its very rare that these deals will last forever. Lets give them the benefit of the doubt, afterall they did raise a ton of money for Girls Inc.

8. So, the bracelt I bought went to Girls, Inc. which is still okay?
My invoice is dated December 14th, if that helps.

I want to make sure my money goes to support lesbianism and widespread abortion as much a possible, and not to spreading bible-bile.

9. LOL. . .
. . .the way it most likely works is, that the bracelets are being sold through December 26 and the proceeds go to Girls Inc.

10. Fair enough...let Mattel come out with a new initiative that
Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 10:11 AM by Mend
supports the rights of women and girls. I could suggest a few. If they don't want to appear kneeling at the feet of the fundies, let them show us what they are made of or let us go elsewhere with our money. It is not political to care about the freedom of those who buy your stuff.

12. Besides Mattel who else should be OBLIGATED to keep Girls Inc. affloat. .
. . .be honest with yourself. If the the conservatives had never ever protested this and the agreement between Girls Inc. and Mattel lapsed you would not have even noticed. I'm for anyone who would support a worthy cause such as Girls Inc., Mattel made a comitment and its honoring that. They should be under no obligation to do more than they comitted to.
