Nun Who Defaced Nuclear Missile Silo In 2002 Released From Prison
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/N/NUNS_MISSILE_SILO?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US

DANBURY, Conn. (AP) -- A pacifist nun convicted of defacing a Colorado missile silo in 2002 was released Thursday from federal prison.

Ardeth Platte, 69, was not due to be released until May 31, but a judge gave her credit for time already served, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Platte, along with sisters Jackie Hudson and Carol Gilbert, were arrested in October 2002 after they allegedly cut a chain link fence surrounding a Minuteman III missile silo in northern Colorado. The nuns then used baby bottles to dispense their own blood in the shape of a cross on the silo.

Air Force security quickly left training exercises to respond, arriving at the site in several armored vehicles. The three nuns, who appeared to be praying and singing, announced they were peaceful and surrendered, according to court documents.

8. I am not catholic...
nor very religious, but how in the HELL do you jail a 69 year old woman of the cloth, a woman who's life has been nothing but sacrifice of self for others? We should use people like this as examples of selflessness.

10. Because she broke the law.
Even being a 69 yr old nun does not give you a license to trespass on a military installation. She knew that and went willingly to her sentence.

11. Every law MUST be obeyed.
"There is no higher authority than the laws put in place by the rich and powerful to serve their interests. Any who defy them are to be punished. Those who challenge the laws of the rulers are criminals. It is not a matter of right and wrong, it is a matter of power and who has it. Every law MUST be obeyed." So say those who have the power to write the laws, and those who serve them without question.

9. What's with "allegedly"?
Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 12:14 AM by Silverhair
Didn't the nuns, in the true spirit of civil disobedience, freely admit to their action? Then what is with the "allegedly"? Is there any doubt?
