3. I heard that live
I was ironing a shirt because I was getting ready to go out for the evening, and I had Wolfie on in the background, but I wasn't really paying attention. Then comes "They are so poor, and so black..." I was absolutely startled; I looked up at the TV. I couldn't believe it. It's one of those unforgettable moments: so poor and so black. If you say that to me in 30 years the whole scene will flash back into my head Waterford clear.

A veneer cracked with Katrina. Something solid broke open for a second and the whole underbelly of America was zooming around the world at light speed, the very media apparatus we'd invented to conceal it suddenly showing it forth in high ironic reversal. So poor, and so black. Indeed.

He also said it about the Katrina victims.

7. If people go back and watch his performance on The Daily Show.
It will leave no doubt that he's just a total fucking clueless airhead.

8. I really don't have an issue with him saying it like that....
In context, he basically said that watching all these people, who are all so poor, and so black, is going to raise a lot of issues. That's EXACTLY what I remember thinking as I watched the coverage. Although I don't typically like CNN's coverage, I don't have a problem with what he said there because really it was the truth.
