That puts his "there wasn't time" argument into the crapper.

2. Within 72 hours.
Therefore, if he chose not to exercise that option, quite clearly the reason for the wiretapping is not in the interest of national security, but to further his own agenda for more power.

Wiretapping without a warrant. Doesn't that create a situation where any evidence obtained is not admissible in court? No wonder the bush administration has such an abysmal record of prosecuting actual terrorists.

3. That's the maddening part about the CNN question:
Do you agree with President Bush that secret wiretaps are needed to protect the American people?

http://www.cnn.com/

They help them muddy the waters. Outrage.

7. I wrote to them and called the way they phrased the question shameless
We need to bombard them with that. They are really helping the administration to rephrase the question, or are utter ignorant idiots.

10. They do seem bizarrely ignorant....
I don't think their re-phrasing is going to work, though. At least I hope not.

4. IF there is an actual investigation we will find out why.
I think because it was abused for a varieity of reasons and spying was done not just on international calls and not just on al qaida (sic) suspects.

my bet is that they spied on us citizens and foriegn diplomats for political reasons.

12. a very elequoent caller on NPR this afternoon
brought up the possibility that bush could have used this 'tactic' on the Kerry campaign-
"Tinfoil"? maybe- but without having the court to legitimize him- bush leaves a very large abyss that his 'credibility' cannot bridge- given his perfomance to date.
