I am EXTREMELY Disappointed in Sen. Kennedy's ** Speech Response.....
Am I alone here??

<snip>

There is a difference, he said, between "honest critics who recognize what is wrong, and defeatists who refuse to see that anything is right."

That drew a rebuttal from Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass.

"It's wrong for him to silence his critics by calling them defeatists," said Kennedy. "Every American — including those that thought this war should never have been fought — understands that we have no choice for own security but to win in Iraq."

2. IF that is what he said without being MISQUOTED

then I am disappointed also

one point though, what is the definition of WINNING?

Everyone throws the term around yet no one defines it except in vague idealist babble that means nothing

4. You'll never get any support by admitting defeat in Iraq.
There's still way too many people who remember Vietnam.

I think you're reading too much into Kennedy's speech. A "WIN" in Iraq could be declared quite eeasily. After they publish their election results, they will have a gov't of their own. We can then say we've done what we needed to do, this is their Country, and we're officially handing it over. That can be stated as "winning".

You realize NOBODY on either side has ever defined what "winning" means! I think that's why.

5. Kennedy's right....It depends on how you define "win" though
We f'd up big time by going into Iraq in the first place, and it has put us in an untenable position in which there are no "good" choices.

But given that sorry reality, we have to at lest do what we can to minimize the damage -- both to the US and for the Iraqi people.

In this case, "winning" means doing what we can to cut the damages to a minimum. REasonable people can disagree about how best to do that, but Kenndy is right that we can't just walk away with no thought.

6. winning defined as getting out, i would imagine
Bush and the cronies have always tried to paint war critics as unPatriotic leftists who want to see the Iraq war go badly in order to score political points against the GOP. Kennedy is calling BS on that, saying that Democrats want to "win" as well, but winning means getting troops home and getting Iraq onto its own feet.
