I figured they'd gotten all their backstabbing dirty work done and gone home by now. (Repub speaking when I tuned in)

The Democrats keep pointing out what a rip off this is; the Thuggery keep patting themselves on the back in code.

8. There's only one thing that's going to cure this.
A massive movement by the people to kick them out of office. I think the country's angry, I'm just not sure they're quite that angry yet.

I agree with you. There is now a persistent sense that we are being used. They won't be able to get around that and it hasn't peaked yet.

7. So what's going to happen there?
Hopefully they will reject the defense appropriations bill, but I believe it can't be filibustered. Maybe we will get enough votes anyway, as there will have been at least a little time for Senators to learn just what has been attached to it. The campaign finance changes seem sinister to me.

Update 7: House Opens Way for Oil Drilling in Artic
12.19.2005, 05:19 AM

House lawmakers opened the way for oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as one of their last acts of an all-night session Monday bringing their legislative year to a close.

The ANWR provision was attached to a major defense bill, forcing many opponents of oil and gas exploration in the barren northern Alaska range to vote for it. The bill, passed 308-106, also included money for hurricane relief and bird flu preventive measures.

The vote came at 5 a.m. as bleary-eyed legislators struggled to wrap up their work for the year.

17. This was their icing.
They cut food stamps, medicaid, student loans AND voted to open up drilling in ANWR.

In a way, I'm glad they are completely out of control. More people will be repelled and sooner than later.

Might seem kind of picky of me, but it's important when trying to track these bills. I struggle with that at times.

21. There's more
The defense bill also had an attachment to gut current campaign finance restrictions. Repukes also slipped in some kind of tort reform that would of course benefit corporations, and disadvantage individuals.

24. It's been...numbingly shocking?
An all nighter and no fun at all.

One would assume republicans would be on better behavior but they are being blatantly horrible and pretending it is good.

You have to love the bible debate. Sorry right wing Jesus isn't on your side here. Yet they say so because Jesus said to give to the poor sure, but that was individuals. You don't take from others to give to the poor.
Then they deny it is really cuts because some amounts are higher. Well there are many more people needing help, costs go up, it is a real loss.
People WILL be losing medical care, people who have far too little will pay more and there are no luxuries to cut to do that.
Cutting foster homes? Do they know how hard it is to find and keep foster families for any age above toddlers? They are not profiting at all unless it is special needs...and then if you looked at the $$$ per hour of care it is very bad pay.
Cutting child support? Hello. States are already burdened and they will get so far behind. States will lose their share for those on welfare and mothers not on welfare will have less chance of service at all and not get the money those kids deserve.
The student loans...

They cut these so easy because they are so responsible and costs go up. Can't have it. They talk about families getting to keep their money now and when it's pointed out it's for the rich...well OK, but the rich deserve it, they pay more. And makes jobs. Great economy. Great.

How dumb are they?
Or how dumb do they think we are? How many believe what they are doing is right instead of just not caring about people who don't donate?

I don't get it, really. They are rumored to be human. They can't all be soulless .

We already treat our working poor and ill and elderly worse then any industrial nation and now we are moving in reverse.

Shame on us. We already know the many other shames we commit in war and foreign policy...and now we push down our own even more.

I wish Santa was real and did know who was naughty and nice.

If God is real they'll learn in time that heaven isn't impressed by riches and power and really did mean what they said about the least of their brethren.

But some future karma doesn't help those who are hurt by their actions.

And a huge bill they didn't let people read first?

Wait, I'm hallucinating. Right? Because I stayed up all night and did do mushrooms once in my teens. Man, a flashback, a bad trip 30 years late. Right? Please?
