Skelton, Spratt, Meehan, and now Ortiz. Too bad none of this PIP part will see the light of day on the Gnus.
"For us to use this as a game is not fair to our soldiers...and it's not fair to our country"-Ortiz.

28. Wow I looked up the FDR reference about being frozen.
Thanks Beam Me Up for your knowledge of FDR.

We do not see faith, hope, and charity as unattainable ideals, but we use them as stout supports of a nation fighting the fight for freedom in a modern civilization.

Faith — in the soundness of democracy in the midst of dictatorships.

Hope — renewed because we know so well the progress we have made.

Charity — in the true spirit of that grand old word. For charity literally translated from the original means love, the love that understands, that does not merely share the wealth of the giver, but in true sympathy and wisdom helps men to help themselves.

Governments can err, presidents do make mistakes, but the immortal Dante tells us that Divine justice weighs the sins of the cold-blooded and the sins of the warm-hearted on different scales. Better the occasional faults of a government that lives in a spirit of charity than the consistent omissions of a government frozen in the ice of its own indifference.

34. Emailing CNN for not having anything on home page
NOTHING at ALL on their site about this legislation - here is my letter to them.

I was wondering why it is that you are not reporting on your site that the Republican leadership is once again in late night session passing a budget bill that is outrageously irresponsible and is nothing more than a handout to the rich and special interests. This is typical of this congress - overnight sessions to slide through legislation when they know CNN and the other networks wont say a word. It will end up in small print with minimal readership the next day. Shame on you.

Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 04:02 AM by DubyasWorld
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/12/19/ap/politics/mainD8EJ4V788.shtml

Democratic critics attacked the bill's chief advocate, Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska, for adding the oil provision to legislation providing $453 billion for the Pentagon. They also said he had weakened environmental standards and accused him of offering enticements to skeptical senators in the form of funds for hurricane relief and other programs.

The legislation includes provisions to spend $2 billion for five hurricane-hit states, as well as $3 billion for homeland security funds and $2 billion for low-income heating assistance for the poor. Officials said some of the money could be borrowed if it didn't materialize as anticipated.

"Isn't that what the game really is here?" said Rep. David Obey, D-Wis. He said Stevens was "trying to make Gulf Coast states an offer they can't refuse."

the senate votes on this disgrace later today.

Rep. Joe Barton of Texas Stable After Heart Attack
From Times Wire Reports

Rep. Joe L. Barton (R-Texas), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, was hospitalized after a heart attack.

Barton, 56, had three stents inserted, Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) told colleagues on the House floor. Stents often are used to open blocked arteries.

"He is alert, resting and in stable condition," said Barton spokeswoman Karen Modlin. "He is also unhappy to be absent, and we expect his return to work as quickly as his doctors complete their evaluation and release him."

WTF does ANWAR have to do with a Defense Dept. bill? Why more $? Don't tell me it's for the troops, either. Grrrrrrrrrrrr...

93. D- David Obey
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 04:38 AM by Moochy
The republican leadership has decided the DA is the appropriate vehicle

There's something especially outrageous and callous about the willingness of the majority party leadership to allow the Defense Authorization (DA) in a time of war to be held hostage to special interest items.

The Defense Authorization ought to be about delivering equipment, and used to support our troops, but instead its being used to give a multi-billion dollar bonanza to the oil companies.

That act represents a fundamental corruption of the legislative process by sprinkling money around various parts of this bill to ensure passage in the Senate.

senate tax cuts, the house has become an assembly line.

It slashes crucial activities for the govt. it cuts 8 billion dollars,
4 billion from defense.

"Dont worry about it, we'll add it back later" some say, if that is the case this bill is the fraud.

1 billion dollars less : no child left behind, cuts to speical education ,FBI, new hires counterintelligence
local law 315 million,

pell grants 31 million below last year.

education 1.4 billion less, with this years cuts 3 billion dollars in education cuts.

The SENATE TOTALLY MISREPRESENTED the language in ANWR. They were erroneous and contrary to what he was told.

42 pages added, prepared at 11:20 SATURDAY. They LIED to obey about the vaccine manufacturers indemnity fund. (zero'd out the fund of course)

Obey is urging a vote for recommittal.

A motion to recommit, if this vote fails, they will move on to final vote on defense appropriations.

120. Blow up your TV
Blow up your tv

She was a level-headed dancer on the road to alcohol
I was just a soldier on my way to Montreal

Well, she pressed her chest against me
About the time the jukebox broke
She give me a peck on the back of the neck
And these are the words she spoke

Blow Up Your TV, throw away your paper
Go to the country, build you a home

Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches
Try and find Jesus on your own

I sat there at the table and I acted real naive
Cause I knew that topless lady, she had something up her sleeve
She danced around the room awhile and she did the hoochy cooch
Yea sing a song all night long tellin' me what to do

Blow Up Your TV, throw away your paper
Go to the country, build you a home

Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches
Try and find Jesus on your own

But I was young and hungry and about to leave that place
Just as I was going she looked me in the face

I said "You must know the answer"
She said "No, but I'll give it a try"
And to this day we've been livin' our way
Here is the reason why

We blew up the TV, threw away the paper
Went to the country, built us a home

Had a lotta children, fed 'em on peaches
They all found Jesus on their own
