What will the next distraction be, and WHEN?
They don't have their chess pieces in place for either Syria OR Iran at the moment, and they're at a dead stop in Iraq and Afghanistan. We lose sometimes several soldiers per day, and have obtained not ONE positive goal in any of the countries they wished to control. I suspect they may use the "election" in Iraq to cut and run, perhaps Saigon-style.

What will it be? They've been busted on numerous major things over the past few days. They've been busted bona fide. They know it, they can't deny it, and they can't escape it. The MSN is waking from their nap and a few brave souls are actually asking a pertinent question or two every so often. So they need a distraction. Fast. Something must happen in an unexpected place.

What will it be? They don't have the time to wait for Israel to attack Iran- by all the rumours that is three months distant. North Korea has been absent from the front page for quite a while. Hell, there hasn't even been a domestic terralert for days!

What will it be? They're running out of time. It's out now that they've well and truly broken the Constitution. Congress is making noise about reestablishing oversight- a vitally important tool they abandoned all too easily, IMHO. But now that the cat's out of the bag they're scrambling to prove to the nation they still deserve their paycheck. Which, again IMHO, they do not. Get used to the klieg lights, ladies and germs. The lights are hot, they're bright, and they've been switched back on. Time to wakey-wake from your soft money trance and get back to work.

What will it be? The price of gas has crept back up about twenty cents since the dip dipped. (And we all know who the dip is...) Cheney and his oil policy have been AWOL for weeks- he suddenly sprung from his coffin to appear in Iraq this weekend, but to what purpose? According to all who have laid eyes on him and lived to tell the tale, he's in a poorly way physically, and rumours abound about him leaving the job- or being forced from it- some scenarios have it taking place mere days. I don't necessarily believe it, but it sure would be nice. However, that's not enough to convince this puppy the house has been cleaned.

What will it be? We haven't had a major city flooded into oblivion for weeks now, and it looks like there may not be another storm-related disaster until next year. Every republican in the country is praying to Pat Robertson the whole storm season just disappears down the memory hole. And it may be happening- when is the last time the MSN has mentioned the still-undiscovered dead in Louisiana and Mississippi?

I could go on, but it would be the wee hours of the morning before I got done. Instead of going over everything we all know by heart, I'll simply ask a single question and call it a post.

What will the next distraction be, and WHEN?

2. "Its election season, so nothing matters"
will be the new line.

All criticism will be dismissed as election year rhetoric.

Also, I don't agree with your assertion that the administration has not accomplished 1 single goal in Iraq. To the contrary, they have not laid out a single goal. We have been left to speculate about what those goals are.

Therefore, I think the neocons are having tremendous success with their intended goals.

1. Plunder
2. Murder
3. Destroy democracy
4. Create Theocracy in Iraq for our American Theocracy to fight against
5. Destroy evidence of the "cradle of civilization"

There are many others, but we all know what they are so there is no reason to rehash them here.

Our perception of goals in Iraq may be the biggest help the administration has- their built in distraction.
