Take the money you were going to spend on gifts and give it to the homeless.

Then, write a card to the original recipient and tell them that their xmas present is the fact that Joe or Jane Doe will have enough money to keep a roof over their head for a couple of nights and their belly full.

That's how to wage a war on Christmas that might wake a few sheeple.

1. Sounds like going back to basics
But the corporatists will use the news media to push an entirely different approach.

2. I am working on my letter now. The thing is, and perhaps you
can help, I have to watch Falafel Boy and Hannity to get all their advertisers. Needless to say, I'm putting it off.

3. I bought two things this year
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 02:32 PM by Warpy
One was an item my 89 year old father needs to help cope with his declining health. The other was a pound of real chili powder for a friend in New England.

Everything else was homemade.

4. Also, tell them you'll be donating any gifts they give you to charity.
I've found that to be a way to put a stop to unwanted gift giving real quick.

5. i DONT want to wage a war on christmas. that is the whole point
there is not a war on christmas, nor do i desire to wage war on christmas. it is right using a false war to continue their war with liberals. and no, i dont feel to be drawn into a fake war on christmas like a blinded sheep just to war with repug and hand the christmas along with everything else

7. It's not a war on Christmas.
It's a war on THEIR Christmas, the corporate, comeercialized one.

That one's got to go.

If you want to give gifts from the heart, fine. If you're succumbing to commercial blackmail, screw it. Time to do something different.

6. "Don't shop"? That's easy thanks to this "booming economy" we can't...
afford to if we want to actually heat our home above freezing, put even cheap basic food on our table, feed the furkids or put gas in the car once in a blue moon.

The few people I truly feel I need to give a gift to (like my DD's and parents) will get one of the nice antiques we inherited or something I make from things we already have. My husband will get a "personal" coupon book... he'll like that best anyway. ;)

A few others are in the same place... they're struggling to simply live no less *do* the Holiday shopping thing.

10. Who has the extra money to shop!
Our whole family is just trying to make ends meet. We had a family conference to discuss this, and all agreed to bake, sew or make gifts for all, or trade off helping with children, repair chores and etc. We will have a great family get together, plenty of oysters and food and wine and enjoy ourselves as we always do, all the children are in college or high school and understand. They are a great group and are quick to help one another. I love them dearly for how much they care about one another. So we always have a Merry Christmas regardless.

Not a celebration of conspicuous consumption. That sounds like a wonderful day coming for you.
