I do not have to say "This is the season of cheer and goodwill--and I'm going to force you into celebrating cheer and goodwill if I have to hold a gun to your head."
I choose to keep Christmas in my own way--and "my own way" does NOT mean forcing others to wish me a Merry Christmas or else. It means truly espousing the values taught by he whose birth I choose to celebrate at this time of year, despite knowing that he really wasn't born on December 25 and that he wouldn't have demanded or expected me to celebrate his birth, and that most of the trappings surrounding the celebration of his birth are deliberate co-ops of much older celebrations designed to popularize belief in him over belief in them.
What did he teach?
--Love --Peace --Being welcoming to those who are "different" or shunned by others --Generosity
What did he teach against?
--Hate --Hypocrisy--i.e, pretending to be "more religiously observant than thou" while at the same time ignoring all the messages he spread about what he taught as listed above
And that's how I will be celebrating my Christmas, Charlie Brown.
