DECLARATION: I will not let America's enemies steal my Christmas spirit
Those who attempt to politicize Christmas into some sort of right-wing rallying point will fail miserably. The culture Nazis who are trying to plant a GOP button on the swaddling clothes of the infant Jesus commit blasphemy. I reject their "war on Christmas" and the lies used to perpetuate it. Get behind me, Satan. Adjuro te!

Who's with me on this?

1. In a way, I'm enjoying the whole brouhaha

because it means they have become their own Grinches; they've stolen their own Christmas -- instead of enjoying the holiday and recognizing its true meaning they are running around all angry and aggrieved, just looking for evidence of persecution against Christians in the innocuous greetings of some part-time store clerk at the local mall. How sad is that?

As for me, unrepentant America-hating apostate lefty that I am -- I'm going to a caroling party tonight. I'll be singing Christmas carols about peace and love and Jesus while the angry faux-Christians are out looking for reasons to be pissed off. I hope there will be eggnog and Christmas cookies.

2. it has so gone into humor. as we holiday cheer all over the place
our house has been event of family and play for a couple weeks now. friends and family we love all in holiday cheer. after all the kids are free free free, hubby business slows and he is home more...... yummys, lites color galore. what is there not to like in this 10 degree weather all toasting and gathered in our house.

cannot be done. spirit can never be taken away, we can only willingly give it. i refuse too

3. I'm with you.
I do not have to say "This is the season of cheer and goodwill--and I'm going to force you into celebrating cheer and goodwill if I have to hold a gun to your head."

I choose to keep Christmas in my own way--and "my own way" does NOT mean forcing others to wish me a Merry Christmas or else. It means truly espousing the values taught by he whose birth I choose to celebrate at this time of year, despite knowing that he really wasn't born on December 25 and that he wouldn't have demanded or expected me to celebrate his birth, and that most of the trappings surrounding the celebration of his birth are deliberate co-ops of much older celebrations designed to popularize belief in him over belief in them.

What did he teach?

--Love
--Peace
--Being welcoming to those who are "different" or shunned by others
--Generosity

What did he teach against?

--Hate
--Hypocrisy--i.e, pretending to be "more religiously observant than thou" while at the same time ignoring all the messages he spread about what he taught as listed above

And that's how I will be celebrating my Christmas, Charlie Brown.
