"Everything's Changed Since 9/11"...
"Everything's Changed Since 9/11"
How many times have we heard that?

Suppose 9/11 never happened. Would any of the following occurred:

- Iraq War
- Afghani War
- Patriot Act
- Use of NSA to spy on Americans
- Appointment of John Bolton to UN
- Appointment of Alberto Gonzalez to Attorney General
- Appointment of Porter Goss to CIA chief
- Appointment of Condoleeza Rice to Secretary of State
- Bush reinstalled in 2004

Answer is probably No to all. Bush's ratings were in the toilet on 9/11 and he showed no promise of improving them. The wars could not have been justified. Those appointments, controversial as they were anyway, would have been fiercely fought by Dems, who would have had much more strength without the gigantic spectre of the War on Terror looming over their every move.

So why is it so hard to believe that Bush and his cronies had something to do with 9/11? Think about it, and think about it hard.

30,000 dead Iraqis. What's 3,000 dead Americans in the grand scheme of things?

Say it with me.

"Everything's changed since 9/11".

Yes.

2. I say it's pure incompetence.
It's why he has to CHEAT at everything. I'm sure he cheated in college, too...now he's moved on to cheating our Democracy.

Everything changed November of 2000, when he was selected to be pResident. And it's been nothing but shit, since.

And those numbers plus 100,000 will mean nothing...
Millions of Americans jobless... the world increasingly dislikes the US... the US picking fights with other countries (even good ol' China)...

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I forgot about environmental concerns and, of course, "peak oil".

5. Nothing has really changed though...
As heavy as all this shit is, it's still as old as the hills.

Various crazed religious extremists killing thousands of innocent people in their quests for power.

Nothing new here.

6. I believe with all my heart, did at the time, and always have...
that "Bush and his cronies had something to do with 9/11." OF COURSE THEY DID! They acted arrogantly, in plain sight, and strutted and crowed about it later. Somewhere, there's a smoking gun, a recorded phone call, a document, SOMETHING that will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that "Bush and his cronies had something to do with 9/11." Apparently production of such irrefutable proof is what it will take to rid this poor country of this brood of vipers. I hope it's produced sooner rather than later.

7. Yes, everything has changed, including me!
Had 9/11 never happened, I would likely have remained clueless as to just what our country has been up to for the past 60-something years. I had NO IDEA about spying on our own citizens, installing regimes, promoting corporate interests!

I seriously had NO IDEA. It's not that I was a freeper type, I just never heard of these things. When 9/11 happened I genuinely became interested in why such a thing could happen and I learned a HELL of a lot. I underwent an incredible and painful transformation from an apathetic, nonvoting "Murkin" to a radical, activist, citizen in a period of less than 2 years.

So from my perspective, yes, everything has changed. "America" as a country and as an ideology has changed. My idea of "enemies" has changed dramatically. My concept of what it means to be a citizen has also changed. Since 9/11, I have: given up my "moderate" political ideology; given up my Christian faith; been FORCED to cut ties with racist, homophoic, RWer family members; rethought my entire sense of self; changed career paths to reflect my activist longings.

Sounds like a very self-centered post, I know. But I sincerely hope that there are millions of others like me who have actually become LESS self-centered as a result of rethinking WHO they are in the larger scheme of things.

10. All that and more
- NGOs chased out of Iraq/Afghanistan
- US Treasury looted to payroll contractors
- Social Security looted and nearly "privatized"
- US Armed Forces outsourced and WalMarted
- National Guard tapped for military servitude
- US torture prisons franchised like McDonalds
- George, Dick and Rummy become America's new heroes (for a couple of years anyway)

Lucky break? I don't think so.

16. Anthrax letters were probably
a back-up in case the hijackers didn't pull off 9-11 successfully. (It being easy to make the link between anthrax and Saddam's alleged chemical weapons).

19. And notice the difference with 2/26/93. I don't recall the former
administration being blamed or US citizens giving up their civil rights to the gov't or foreign nations being invaded. (Those same foreign nations that in the Clinton years Cheney of Halliburton wanted to make nice to and complained about sanctions and the "paranoia" of the Clinton administration about terrorism.)

Oh and yeah, what was the Bush Administration's excuse for not going after the perpetrators of the USS Cole bombing? In 2001 what happened in Oct 2000 was "old news?" Bush didn't give a shit. Still doesn't. Unless he can use something to the advantage of their goals.

9-11 was just as convenient to the Bushistas as the burning of the Reichstag was to the Chancellor of Germany.
