Why they hate US
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/opinion/2005/December/opinion_December59.xml§ion=opinion&col=

THE US President George W. Bush has once again blamed Arab media for his country’s image problem. "I recognise we got an image issue, particularly when you have television stations, Arabic television stations that are constantly just pounding America — saying America is fighting Islam, Americans can’t stand Muslims, this is a war against a religion," Bush commented following a speech in Philadelphia last Monday.

It’s disturbing to think that the president truly believes that Arab and Muslim contempt for his government stems from Arab media detractors, rather than his administration’s misguided policies. Simply put, Arab and Muslim nations’ disdain for the Bush administration is a natural human response to colonisation, military oppression, and the degrading regimes they bring about. Before making these impulsive remarks, President Bush should’ve consulted the history of the Middle East — of which his clique often claims mastery — a region whose past has been marred with utter contempt for foreign occupiers and unyielding struggle to force them out.

Indeed, the US image problem has little to do with newspapers and 24 hours news channels, and more to do with the dangerous insistence on ignoring the roots of the West’s fallout with Muslims, not always as a religious group, but as colonised and exploited nations.

Indeed, for centuries, the Muslim-dominated Middle East has captured the West’s imagination in a myriad of ways. Yet, as is often the case, the disparity of power and wealth dictated the course of Western action — and reaction — then concentrated mostly in Europe. Up until the second half of the twentieth century, much of the Middle East — not to mention other regions that were viewed as lands of equally ‘inferior’ races — fell victim to untold exploitation, degradation, and often, brutal occupation.

1. Yelling "Islamofascists" doesn't help his image either.
Brutal occupation continues. I have the problem of having thought that we (the USA) were better than we are. I mean, I have had a jaded, cynical attitude towards the powers that be, of whichever political party, but I truly thought that The People were better than they have turned out being. Advertising fear works. People don't know how to consider, to think, to make their own decisions. Communication is too fast, too overwhelming. People need instant solutions. All in all, these combine to make our society pretty poor.

2. It not just about W's
policies in the Mid-east. It's also about a middle eastern foreign policy that is controlled by a special interest. That special interest, with it's control, outsources the policy to a foreign government.

4. Um, that IS *'s "foreign policy," such as it is.
Seriously, the man has no knowledge of the history or even the geography of the rest of the world. He relies upon others to know this, and these "others" have implemented "renditions," the installation of corrupt regimes, and occupations throughout these areas and others. Yes, these are "special interests" that precede * but he continues them. This IS his foreign policy, and the so-called "diplomats" he's installed--Kindasleezy and Bolton, are just his way of saying "fuck you" to the rest of the world, whereas former cabinet members could at least PRETEND to care about what the rest of the world thinks.

So yes, it IS about his "policies in the Mid-east." After all, these are now HIS foreign policies. If you want to compare them to previous US policies, ok, but HE is (at least pretending to be) the president NOW!!!! What ARE his fucking "policies in the Mid-East"? HOW ARE THEY ANY FUCKING DIFFERENT FROM THESE SPECIAL INTERESTS???????

o yes, it IS about his "policies in the Mid-east."

Did I ever say that it wasn't? Go back and re-read the intro to my post. Yes these are his policies but he has continued a lopsided middle eastern foreign policy that began with Truman. We can have no debate(in the halls of power) about this policy because WE HAVE A FUCKIN SPECIAL INTEREST(AIPAC) THAT SILENCES ALL DEBATE AND DISSENT ON THE ISSUE. That's one of the reasons why we find ourselves in the mess we are in.

Criticizing Israel and it's special interest lobby is not bigoted or anti-Semitic. Get over it.

I calls 'em as I sees 'em--and you're a typical ranting bigot.

Get over it yourself, "dude."

13. Do you mind telling me where I said that?
You see you can't engage in the truth and discuss what I said in the previous posts that's why you resort to tactics like distorting and lying about someone's POV. No suprise that's what fascists do when they don't like speech that offends them.

14. Oh, your "speech" doesn't "offend" me....
...I just recognize it for what it is: anti-semitic horseshit. I can only be "offended" by those whom I respect - and you don't come close to qualifying.

Keep looking for those Jews under your bed though...they're gonna getch ya! :sarcasm:

15. And I see your
tactics for what they are. Pro-fascist horseshit censoring of speech through distortion, lying, and intimidation by way of unwarranted accusations.

And you still have not shown me where I made derogatory remarks about Jews. Do you know what the word credibility means?

Or did the Jews make you type that? (snicker)

17. Let me ask you some questions
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 04:36 PM by 4freethinking
1)Are you pretending to be a mind reader?
2)Do you think it pertains to Israel and it's lobby?
3)Explain how this is a derogatory remark about Jews?

19. Let me give you some answers:
You said:

"It's also about a middle eastern foreign policy that is controlled by a special interest. That special interest, with it's control, outsources the policy to a foreign government"

I said:

"Name that "special interest" please. Thanks."

You said:

Now, you can keep playing this cute little game that you didn't say precisely what you did all you want - but most literate people won't be persuaded.

Peddle it elsewhere.

21. First of all
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 05:32 PM by 4freethinking
thank you for not answering any of my questions. You could have proven your point a lot better.
Second of all in the future may I suggest you not try to engage in mind reading and simply scroll up the webpage and find out what I'm saying. (I'm referring to post #7 that came directly after or maybe at the same time as your post #6). You don't know how to do that? Here's a tip: There are two arrows(one up and one down) and a tab on the right or the left of the window of your browser. Use your mouse cursor and push the up arrow or down arrow and the webpage will go up or down. Use the tab and the page will scroll. If you have a mouse that has a wheel it can do the same as the tab.
