Washington rumor flying
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 11:09 PM by Marymarg
My daughter who lives in DC left a message on my answering machine tonight that a rumor is "flying around DC" that Cheney is going to resign and Bush is going to appoint Lieberman to take his place. She said that it is pretty crazy but that it is the rumor.

Edit to add: she also said that Cheney resignation would be "for health reasons"

1. This has been the rumor for close to a week now.
It hasn't happened, and it still remains aimless speculation in my book.

But, who knows.....rumors are usually based on some odd, occasionally minute fact.

3. Well, there was a rumor that Joementum was going to replace Rummy.
That sounds more likely to me than Cheney resigning, he's practically the President.

13. Why Papa Joe? The gop base would explode if chimpy
appointed a democrat as vp. Well with the possible exception of zell miller. Nah I have the feeling that were stuck with chimp and co until 2008

28. Might be to keep the GOP base from impeaching Bush.
I think Bush is clearly headed down the tubes. And that Repubs will impeach him so they'll have a better chance of staying in power in '06 and '08. He is an albatross now.

However, impeach Bush and put a Dem in the WH?

I think, if true, this would be a Bush attempt at self defense.

It's going to be a very interesting winter.

40. Or Joe has been bought and paid for
and he'd just be their puppet and only under the democratic name. Than people won't want to vote for democrats if he does the same thing as Bush and the neocons. I think Joe has been trying to become a neocon for a while now. He has many friends who are clearly and he votes with them a lot of the time. Never mind he's supposed to be a democrat.

41. No
I don't think they will impeach him, and that is the problem. There is no accountability when one party controls all 3 branches of government... i would rather see a Republican president sitting with a democrat-controlled Senate any day than a democrat congress, executive, and judiciary.. it is an issue that defies politics. there is too much room for abuse.

He will not be impeached and he will continue to act in defiance of the law

There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do. Go through his clothes and look for loose change.

An appointment of a new VP requires Congressional approval. It's possible that they think Lieberman is their "Get Out Of Jail Free" appoinment.

And how ironic would it be if Lieberman ended up being VPOTUS after 2000?

Cause I saw something on CNN that said he was off on a 5-day trip, visiting allies in the war on terra. Somehow, that rumor doesn't sound likely to me. (It appears to be a weird combination of wishful thinking and worst case scenario!)

So Many Spy Scandals, So Little Time, Eh Dick? ---pix->>>

I predict Cheney retires for "health reasons" before the year is out. That's why he was busy buying the luxury mansion while New Orleans drowned. He's the hub for too many scandals. The stench DC is complaining about emanates from the Naval Observatory.

It's time to go, Dick.

57. Sounds reasonable to me. Here's my scenario--with a little bit of tinfoil

1. Cheney resigns for reasons of ill health.

2. In a bipartisan gesture, Bush appoints Lieberman. He gets kudos all around for reaching out across the aisle. He also gets to blame the bad stuff on Cheney.

3. Fitzgerald closes in on the now out of office Dick Cheney.

4. Now here's where we enter tinfoil territory. Cheney dies of a heart attack (some suspect Shrubco of helping him along just as some suspected people in the Reagan administration of hastening the demise of CIA Director Casey after the Iran-Contra scandal became public but nothing is proved) This sets the stage for a revival of a grand old GOP classic--BLAME THE DEAD GUY.

5. A couple of Cheney aides are indicted and maybe even tried if Fitzgerald can get anywhere with his investigation before the end of Bush's term.

6. Karl Rove's role is spun as trying to control the damage that that BadCheneyMan started and he skates.

6. Right before he leaves office Bush issues pardons all around--this is hardly noticed by the general public.

7. Bush leaves office with his reputation (and his family's reputation) more or less intact. Eight years later, once memories have faded, Jeb runs for President.
