Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation of Southwest Flight
Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation of Southwest Flight
Written for the web by C. Johnson, Internet News Producer

Passengers were evacuated from a Southwest Airlines flight at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank late Friday afternoon after a passenger made remarks that the flight crew interpreted as a bomb threat.

Transportation Safety Administration authorities said five people were questioned in connection with comments about a bomb being on the plane. Flight attendants reported the conversation to the pilot, who opted to pull the Boeing 737 onto a remote section of airport tarmac. The aircraft had been taxiing to the runway when the alleged bomb threat was made.

The 130 passengers were evacuated from the aircraft via a mobile staircase placed at the rear passenger door.

Five men who were on the aircraft were detained. Four of those were soon released, but a man in his 20s was retained for further interrogation.

6. But anyone knows if the word "bomb" is heard, it's shootin' time.
And, even if no one else heard it, if the shooter says he might have heard it, open fire.

About 130 passengers were evacuated from a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 onto a taxiway at Bob Hope Airport on Friday afternoon after flight attendants overheard a passenger joking about a bomb, authorities said.

The pilot of the Southwest Airlines flight made the call after some kids were heard making comments about a bomb. Everyone was let back on the plane after it was checked for explosives.

Officials don't believe the children's threats were credible.

8. I Was Just There
A month ago. There are signs everywhere that say that "Any reference to bombs, hijackings, etc. will be taken as serious comments and prosecuted." I've seen it before in other airports, but at Burbank, it was featured prominently.
