I figure I'll get some response to the Canadian leadership debate one way or another.

1. I've followed Canadian politics loosely the past two years. I'd love it if
you'd fill me in on how the campaigning is going on. What's the outlook?

4. It's too close to tell
We're talking neck and neck. If I allow my bias to come in I woud like to say the NDP s going to pick up some seats. But who knows. Basically Martin shot himself in the foot with his handgun ban thing. But Harper won't shut up on gay marriage, which is hurting him.
Now, all parties are busy attacking the US administration as it's good for the polls.
I think the Libs are going after NDP supporters with the gun thing hoping to take away from the NDP. And the Cons are really just being the cons, except getting on the anti-washington bandwagon now.

3. I haven't been watching it...

but I definitely give a damn about the leadership debate in Canada. As a Michiganian, I feel very close (physically and emotionally) to our great Northern neighbor (or southern for those of us in the Detroit area :)) and follow Canadian news (we get CBC here :bounce:). But on a Friday during the holiday season, perhaps a whole lot of people aren't paying much attention

8. Didn't you just have one?
How can you take them seriously when you could have another one a year from now??

Not that I wouldn't like to be in your shoes right now, but still..

9. There is absolutely no fire in these debates
The January ones might be worth watching though. This election is just ground hog day, imo, ala the last election. No new issues, no new ideas, all in all, a snorer, so far, at least.

11. There's gotta be a swear word coming!
Yeah, funny how Canada can have such a lively house and such a boring debate

12. Well this Harper guy is a snooze fest.
He's also very snarky, but in a very subdued way. It's weird.

14. LOL, too true! Sadly, it is the format they have adopted that
stifles any passion, any back and forth between the candidates ergo boooooorrrrrring.

15. These televised debates are all the same.
It doesn't matter if it's Canada or the US: they appear totally scripted; when "answering" questions they all look into the camera - with their hands folded/using those "thumbs up" gestures just so - as only lying politicians do...it's just soooo fucking boring. (They ALL do this in EXACTLY the same manner, Canada/US, Lib/Conservative/Dem...doesn't matter. Is there some sort of secret finishing school they all attend to learn those fucking hand gestures? Geeezz...)

I like it the week before the election, when there's no "debating" left and they're on the streets and desperate, boot-licking and lying/fucking up on-the-fly.

16. Random thoughts:
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 09:27 PM by jim3775
AFAIC, nobody has stood out tonight.

I liked Martin's answer on child care.

Jack, stop making everything into a campaign commercial.

I love it when the NDP talks about real democratic reform.

Duceppe is pretty much irrelevant here.

I don't like the tone of the questions (especially the child care one.)

We get it, Ed Broadbent has a plan.

They made it sound like Belinda was irrational in her "jumping back and forth". She switched parties, thats it.

Still no real answers on the softwood lumber.

I'm sleepy.

*yawn*

Edit: WTF, did Harper just say surplusses were bad fiscal policy?
